Hey sorry i know the topic is a generalisation, But the more i snowboard the more i wonder whether height is a setback for freestyle.
If you look at pro's, I don't think there is a dude above 5'10 except mikkel bang, Everybody is tiny.
Actually i was watching air and style beijing last year and mikkel was hauling big tricks but just didn't look as natural and clean as peetu and toots, But then i realised he is like almost a foot taller so it must be a lil more difficult corking the board around because 1.he's got a longer way down to grab the board and 2. he's got to go big all the time to give himself enough time to get around.
i'm like 6ft and sometimes it feels the board is a long way down when i come to grab.
What does everybody think on this? |

LMFAO ...... im 6 foot , you just need to practice and do more bending exercises to be more flexible and bendy
Your body ratio to board length works as board is longer so can lean to it or bend down , same with shorter ppl ( ie mini lol ) shorter legs , less distanc eto go down but board is shorter , so if going for nose or tail, rtatio is same as a tall person , unless you ride a really short board |

see i can cork but it always feels like a long way around but then i see kids who can backflip/frontflip from things like boxes with no problems, I've never seen a tall guy flip off a box have you? i ride a 158 as standard all terrain but i just think that flips must be harder and require more tech for us vertical people.
And obv length is a difference your gonna find it hard going to stomp a nose or tail back/front if your 6'2 or something on a 152. |

| yeah but what you are forgetting is taller people have more body to deal with, Forget boards for a minute we know all this about board size etc i am talking about the mechanics. |

It just means because your big it might not look as tucked and good but you just have to practice on how you hold yourself.
As for being taller and grabs and bending down....your arms are longer anyway.
Front flips and backflips are all in the execution.
If you can cork and land then you should be able to flip. A cork is a type of flip just off axis. I'm 6ft4 and ride between a 159 park 163 park and pow and have bigger boards but 163 is perfect for speed and nimblness for me.
Front flips off boxes are all about snapping that nollie off the nose so you come round nice and high and place the board back on the snow. No commitment and it won't happen. What ever size you are. If your fit, in shape and practice it will happen. A spin, cork or flip can feel slow because you might not be looking for the landing and flying through the air waiting to crash/land |

| Er... you're logic is failing you guys. There's further to reach for a taller person, so their hands have to travel faster to reach the board in the same length of time than somebody smaller. |

Plus U're also assuming that a taller person will naturally have a much longer board or a shorter person will have a shorter board but we all know these can vary between several cm's in length for comfort. Plus then there is flex of the board, the ability of the rider to bend and their own personal style of how they bend too.
Too many variables.
Dunx.. if the arm is longer and further away from the board and the other person's arm is shorter but closer to the board, if this was equally proportional then the speed to reach the board would be the same.
Obviously this would have to be be naked and in a vacuum...(and no I was not insinuating anything else).... |
