He is indeed. Cool

Length of time on snow is length of time on snow - it's a measure of experience and shouldn't dent your confidence... It's just a case of how much time you have spent on the real stuff, that's all.

People progress at difference rates due to things like natural skill and fitness etc. so it's a loose measurement of ability, but more an idea of how much different terrain you have faced.

Don't let that impact on the confidence you have in your riding, except to ensure that you build on the base and your confidence continues to rise...

I will third that, I am literally a bell end.

I'm really sorry if what I said dented your confidence, I definitely didn't mean to do that. I say again that I didn't see you ride so it wasn't aimed specifically at you.

I just think that for value for money, do Europe or Canada a couple of times first, then Japan after that.

I have to agree with the school of thought that unless your loaded and Japan can be a more than once in a lifetime holiday save it until your confident riding powder

Rolling about digging yourself out is hard and takes fun out of riding powder.

2 solid weeks would be good for someone lacking confidence, riding a lot will just help you improve.

Japan is soooo much more than just spending your time drowning in powder (which gets my vote over dodging half drunk out of control lager lout brits abroad treating the mountain as a winter magaluf anyday)
the mountains really offer something for everyone, all levels. There are groomers and tree runs and powder fields for all abilities, 100's of outdoor hot spring baths for after and the best resort food anywhere.
I'm sure Nick M can share with us his wife's views on being a beginner in Niseko
Not really at the OP but at anyone reading this... Japan, if you can you should.
As the saying goes, it's better to regret something you have done than something you haven't

Never met the lad but feel the need to get on someones band wagon...

agree with the latter half of this discussion... you'll get more out of it the more competant you are... But that isn't to say you won't enjoy it now. Just seems like a lot of money to spend to go for a ride as a begginer when you can do that stuff in Europe. It's like taking a trip to North America, I definatley prefer the resorts and the riding but unless you can go for 9 days or so it's a long way and a big cost when Europe's season is the same time of year.

At 5weeks on snow in 2years I am well progressed and I have rode powder, just never that deep! 2ft at Hintertux is best powder day I have had. And for me Japan isn't only for the powder and boarding. I would be spending half a week in Tokyo, it is a case of now or never as we have no kids but they will be coming....
