Well let's start at begining, last Monday me and Julie were crashed into. The lady responsible believed vanity came before due care and attention and promptly used us as her brakes.... Now after a week julie's whiplash is allmost completely better and I'm still in agony with back and neck pain.
The good bit is julies car is repairable and not written off and we both should get some compensation for our injuries.
Now what should we do,
I would love to go to Japan but at SB a doubt was placed on my ability and would I do it justice?
Second is to buy some kit I demo'd and loved. Also go on WB12 for 2weeks and have an epic fortnight if the snow is great.
So what do you think? Answers on a postcard or preferably on forum so I can read them |

| If you want to do it and can afford to then do it. Lifes too short to worry about things, if you're concerned about your riding book on to camp or get some lessons in resort. There really is only one way to learn and that's through doing. Then failing...and doing it some more. Rinse and repeat until you fail less. |

| Wait till you've got your compensation and injuries solved before committing any cash. An old housemate of mine still has problems 8 years on from someone wacking into her. NHS isn't always the fastest option for treatment |

Good to hear you guys are largely OK. Shame it wasn't your 4x4 she hit! You might have both survived better without a scratch.
Guy I work with has been rear-ended three times, and the last time (a couple of years ago) got reasonably bad whiplash. So his doctor recommended he go see a physio to help get it sorted and along with that was recommended by the physio to start yoga to strengthen and straighten his back/neck, which the other person's insurance company paid for in full (well, till his doctor said he was largely back to normal.)
Luckily for him he recovered quite quickly (though he still does have occasional twinges to this day) and still does the yoga today (and is training to become a bikram yoga instructor next year.)
As Annie says, get fit and healthy first, then look to do whatever you fancy, and don't listen to what anyone says about your riding - everyone rides at different levels, the important thing is to enjoy it. |

| Oh to put the kit option into perspective it's give or take 20 quid a £1000 of gear! |

oh wow sorry to hear about that Dave! (and Julie!) but glad to hear you are both pretty much ok
I wouldn't commit any money until you have received any compensation if I were you. But if you can, do Japan! Everyone who I've ever spoken to that's been has said it's awesome! Do it! |

| As above, I didn't get my compensation for just over a year and it wasn't as much as I was told. |

money and health aside, the relationship between ability on the board and being able to enjoy a holiday is complete bollocks. It gets said on here quite a bit that you need to be able to ride well to get "the most out a resort" and fully appreciate and enjoy the holiday...
The best holiday I ever had was my first visit to tignes and i'd never strapped on a snowboard before |

| I would probably head to Japan. I don't know about you but I don't get opportunity to head to Japan that often. |

Hmmmm seeing as there's no rush to spend the money and you haven't even got it yet and it's not a case of now or never, I would personally hold off on the Japan thing.
The thing about Japan is the powder. Lots of it. If I put in a turn and bail and have to spend half an hour digging myself out before doing the same thing again, I'm not going to enjoy it. I'm going to be nackered and fed up. The powder over there is often super-deep and there is certainly a skill to riding powder, and it's a different skill to riding piste. Whilst it's soft to land in, it's hard work to dig yourself out of. Think kiddie-ball-pool, but cold!
So, personally, I would hate to spend the cash on Japan and by the end of my holiday, have just about learnt to ride the powder. That to me would be a waste of a holiday and a load of cash. I would prefer to learn somewhere cheaper, and then go there and be able to spend ALL my holiday riding the best powder there is. That would be a great holiday.
However, if you are confident riding in powder, go for it. |

Sorry to hear about your crash. I hope Julie recovers fully - I've had very very minor whiplash and it's a bitch.

You're referring to me, Mini. I spoke with him at the Summer Bash, and I didn't question anyone's ability (I've never seen them ride, and even if I had, I would never dream of questioning anyone's ability) - I simply said that for anyone with 1 week or so of snow experience, Japan is a £3500 + waste of money. And that's true.
If you've never been there, it's hard for you to know how challenging it is to ride with the combination of several feet of snow and not very steep slopes.
My advice is based on having been there for 2 seasons, and having taught hundreds of hours at riders of their level in Japan. People do not "always" love it - believe me, many leave very frustrated, and cold and wet!
For the money, you could have 3 or 4 Europe holidays, and go to Japan later and get much more from it. I usually agree that people's comments about "getting the most from a resort" is bullcrap - but with Japan being so expensive, it's really worth considering whether it would be better to leave it until a little later, cos many people will only get chance to go once. |

| I do have to clarify that Adam didn't say 'your sh1t' as may of been believed by my bad wording earlier, but what was said made me think twice for sure about my riding. I left tamworth with a dislocated thumb and a large dent in my confidence from the chat. This was not intended by Adam but a by-product nevertheless. I will apologise to Adam as he been portrayed as a bad guy which he is not. |
