Sure you're right that in reality no-one would be done doing 51 in a 50 zome, but you can. It's not safe to assume that if you're doing within 10% you'll be safe.
Yep, as far as I know the "10% + X" rule is pure conjecture. If its illegal for speedos to under read, why would they then have a rule that takes into account under reading speedos? Perhaps there is an unwritten rule that the authorities use, but i'm fairly sure there is no Law as such. If you get caught doing over the speed limit, you open yourself up to a moody/bored copper.
I assume your comment on the speedo reading is aimed at me not AdamA9 ..
Technically speedos must not under read by law and need to be within I think 10% of the speed for over reading so I was slightly wrong in my initial post in they can over read but only up to 10%. In the real world however they don't for the most part due to things like tires, wind resistance, road surfaces and a variety of other things which won't effect a car when it's built and is tested inside a factory but will in the outside world.
Source of sorts under speedometer accuracy one must never trust a politician ...

Sorry for the confusion, I was just agreeing with AdamA9 saying you can get done at any speed over the speed limit and if your speedo says you're over the limit you are very likely going to be over the limit!
We just assume we'll be ok if we are doing "only 10% over" |

Forgot to mention I'm a biker too - there are bikers that ride like idiots but it's a pretty small minority, albeit that they are the ones you remember.
As for cutting in and out, if I'm on a motorway and someone won't pull over I'll ride in whichever lane is most appropriate....as the middle and outside lanes are actually designated as overtaking lanes that means riding in the inside / middle at a greater speed than the outside lane is going at times. Remember that a bike can get out of your way a lot faster than a car, and as DX mentioned we know we're more vulnerable when on a bike so are generally less likely to ride outside our skill envelope, though I do appreciate this is not always the case. I'm waiting for someone to complain about filtering next though
Okay what I was refering to was being side by side with another car on the motorway with another car, and a bike comes speeding up through the middle, fitting through the tiniest of gaps. In traffic they weave in and out, often through spaces so small there's no room for manouver. This is dangerous, and this is what I see on a daily basis. |
