So I took my new shiny board down to HH this afternoon to try it out. This is my first board - I've only ever used the HH ones whilst learning - and it was super shiny. Needless to say, it was so shiny and felt so different to the ones I learnt on that I had no grip on my loose foot going up the button lift (and promptly fell off about 4 times), it whizzed me down the slope like a skateboard on ice and I ended up on my backside more times than I ever did learning. Still, just about sorted that out by the end of the session, will just take some getting used to (and some adjustment of the bindings which the girl in the shop had set up at 18/18 instead of the 12/12 I had asked when I bought it).
Anyway, my gripe is with a bunch of barely teenagers on some sort of school trip who thought it was perfectly acceptable to ski *over* my board at the lift to get ahead. It took all the will in the world not to take the little sods out on the way down. Is this normal - do all skiers behave like this now?? When I skied I was courteous to other lift users......
Gripe over, just needed to vent... |

I'm afraid I would have said something. How else will they ever learn?

| I didn't mean it was just kids, I meant that school holidays are insanely busy and the problem is much worse. |

Loving the Paddington Bear stare - going to try that along with some choice words if it happens again
Mummybear - are you in Alexandria, VA? Small world if so - I work for a company based there and spend a fair bit of time out there!
Yes, a stomp pad is looking a good idea.... |

you mean one of these?
as for a tip... if you have your board behind you, facing across the queue and tilted onto the toe-edge (much like when you're climbing up a slope with it tilted forward) it stops most skis ridings over the board (and tilt it more if they try) - what i do |

Must admit HH is quite bad for that. Never experienced it as much at Braehead or Cas.
Usually the kids will do it because they dont know any better. I find a stern few words in my best Glaswegian accent is usually enough to nip it in the bud. |

A good tip this one - take heed!
It happened to me once at Cas (in approx 30 visits) - similar situation, but the teenager did the same thing to me and my bro-in-law. I said something and the kid immediately apologised, it was ignorance rather than intent to be honest. Don't get peeved with the fact that they were skiers - most skiers I find are as polite and courteous as the vast majority of snowboarders
There are always a minotity idiots within every sport/sphere/walk of life. |

And im about to move a few miles away from it too..if it is the same one....
Could be Alexandria in Egypt though......
or ...
Alexandria (Cathair Alastair in Gaelic) is a town in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland. The town is situated on the River Leven, four miles (6 km) north-west of Dumbarton. As of 2001, the population of the town is 13,444. It is the largest town in the Vale of Leven, the others being Balloch, Renton, Jamestown and Bonhill; their combined population is over 20,000. | It might be a new board but soon you wont care if someone goes over the back of it. For me I would have said something even though I'm not bothered about my board as its trashed. |
