In February, I went to Tam and skiied for the first time in 12 years. Within 10 secs, it was clear that I was ok. Technique a bit rusty but skis were parallel etc.
In March, I switched to snowboarding and I have been riding most weeks. Yesterday, during my daughter's ski club session at Tam, I went back on skis for the first time since the switch.
Well, the first run was terrible. It was disconcerting to feel the skis slide apart and I fell! It took another three runs or so to remember to lean forward and press the shins forward and to regain some degree control and rhythm.
6 months of snowboarding had a worse impact on my skiing than 12 years not on skis! |

| I like to get one day of skiing in during a week's holiday snowboarding. It's the same as you though, much harder to do it after snowboarding instead of just not doing either beforehand. |

It is nice to see that I am not the only one not wanting to cut off skiing completely. Yes, I still like skiing (hate the boots and poles though). Riding though has that extra FUN factor!
We have a week in Les Arcs in Jan 12. My little son is 4 and he still learning to snowplough. There will be times he will need to be held and helped down the slopes or through the lifts. My wife is new to skis and is not confident to do so understandably. With skis, that is possible by putting him between my skis and getting him to hold to the poles held horizontally in front of him.
My wife is already saying that I should rent skis as well! Now, I want to be on my board as much as possible but I can't see how you can steer a young child on skis down the slope whilst riding a board. Any ideas? |

| Use a Tazer! Only kidding, I was out in Killington 4 years ago and it was so icy it was unreal so i rented skis and had a good laugh, won't ever go back full time but it is good to do both and it was funny how it seemed to hurt a whole different set of muscles. |

A Tazer would be useful outside the slopes as well - at home in fact
It is so true that snowboarding and skiing manage to strain different muscles in the thighs! |

It's the main reason I jumped at giving snowboarding a go. Loved being in the mountains, just didn't like the pain of skiing and not being able to step up kerbs after three days skiing. |

Why hire skis, get a race board and have fun on ice. |
