If there is a memory error genrally bios will beep like a bitch to tell you. The BSOD genrally will say hardware / software fault. - If its a laptop it normally a software fault as all standard items with the laptop must be compatable with the windows is supplied with.
If you laptop worked fine for any length of time before the BSOD (like you said) the chances are its just a currupt driver. - The repair should sort it out!
'disable system restart on failure' - This will leave the BSOD screen on until you reboot your machine. untick it and it will keep restarting after the BSOD. Leave it ticked so you know what the error message is!

If it turns out too not be a hardware issue, probably safer to simply return it to factory settings by using it's own rebuild function.
I have had acer's for a while .. copy off your important stuff to an external drive - if this is not possible you should be able to back it up as part of the rebuild process.
To initiate rebuild .. press Alt F10 on start up (Keep pressing F10) until you see the relevant screen - it will give you a choice to rebuild completely however should also give you the ability to rebuild with a back up - it will put all those files in 'my document's' .. into a folder called C:\backup - you then copy it back when rebuild is complete.
I rebuilt my Acer 8493G about a month ago after it blue screened and stopped allowing me to install anything, using Alt F10 - my machine backed up all my 'my documents'.
A thought - I didn't spot it mentioned above .. have you tried downloading and installing Windows 7 SP1 ? ... also bin AVG and install Microsoft's Security Essentials .. much safer and free
