Hey guys,

im heading out to fernie early december for four months. Can anyone recommend an insurer with appropirate coverage? I got a quote from Tagis and its coming in at £485.

Does anyone have any advice or experiences they would like to share on the resort or town as as whole? any info would be welcome and greatly appreciated.

any scuk members heading out there this season?

Hey man,

I'm going out this season from late November till end of April my first season!

Where are you staying dude?

I'm currently looking at insurance as well £450 mark seems to be the cost for a package with decent coverage (piste, off piste, park, £0 excess etc) but if anyone can find anything as good at a better price I'm all ears too!

So excited now stocked to do a season at last everything fell apart (or together depending which way you look at it!) so I bit the bullet and went for it!

No accommodation yet, hoping to get a placed nailed in the next couple of weeks. Do you have a place sorted yet?

I did a season in Banff 05/06 loved it. Had a tough latter 2010 early 2011 so i said sod it, lets do it again, heard great things about Fernie. Not looking forward to the 5 hour greyhound after a 9 hour flight but its going to be so worth it.

I emailed Karma and they no longer do Long stay insurance. they do backpacker however the terms and conditions are vague around winter sports so ive asked for clarification. who have you found at .£450? i dont mind paying excess to bring the premium down i just dont want to get caught with no coverage at all.

I have checked out the site unfortunately I cant seem to locate any long term prices. Going by the daily rate Im looking at $750+ tax for a month (dorm) which is the similar price for a one bed room apartment

Thanks for taking the time to respond. SCUK insurance is coming in quite a bit cheaper so think I will go with them.

We are talking 250 quid a month for your own room. Its the best deal in town!!! No we don't have a hot tub but 600 quid per person per month.... We are central downtown and you get your own room!!! All bills and WiFi included. And the ski bus stops right out front.

Mate just come to fernie and find accomodation when you get here (Im about to finish my year in Fernie, still here!!)

I got a place for $500.00 per month which included all bills, internet, fully furnished etc and that wasn't the best place I could have got. You can easily find something here. Friends of ours got 300 bucks for the same deal.

I suggest not paying before hand in GBP because it will cost you a bomb in comparison. Friends of ours were paying 550 quid a month which equates to about 800 buck ish where as I paid 500 dollars.

Dont listen to anyone saying its hard to find a place.

Summer prices are totally different to winter prices. You need to remember that. Also Fernie is a lot busier than this time last year because of all the miners taking houses and rooms. If you are here early enough you will find yourself a house to live in if that is what you are after but if you are not here till mid December or later good luck.

Email me for any info about anything Fernie

From what I've seen its $1000 pm $800 pm up ridgemont both for a one bed apartment with utilities. I can only see you getting it for $500 if sharing a house with a number of people
