Winter is coming!! well not soon enough but its always good to get in shape before hand, so without the use of fridges what are you guys doing (if any) to get in shape before the season as its quite hard to build up general 'mountain' fitness while in the uk.

i know im lazy, but ive opted for a whole season and while right now i have the fitness level of a asthmatic O.A.P, ive decided to start getting a little fitter(hopefully).

now as i refuse to gym it as im already running low on cash, i am just starting a home workout along the lines of running 5k twice a week to build up some kind of cardio up. and im also using weights while doing leg instensive exercises like calf rasises, lunges, squats also working the core crunches, side crunches etc

and then while im out there my fitness will improve with time as this training it just to put me at some kind of starting block for the begining weeks of the season.

i know we have a section on preseason fitness but just wondering do any of you guys bother, or are you already fit enough Laughing , if you are in a routine what is it.
so yeah.... Very Happy

Jogging, cycling, dieting and fridge time. Working the legs more, but once the weather gets a bit worse I'll join the gym and do weights, swimming and might try that boxercise out. Someone recommended yoga as well and since it was a sexy latina that recommended it I might just try it out. First real year boarding so not really doing for boarding, doing it because I was a fat guy bored of sitting at a computer.

I keep thinking of doing some Yoga. I'm the least flexible person I know, can't even cross my legs properly when sitting on the ground Not sure
Going to start cycling again and may get back in the gym - I hate gyms.

Doing loads of running at the moment (training for half marathon in October). After that probs turn down the running a bit but mix it up with squats, yoga/core balance etc and going to try spinning Confused apparently v good for your leg strength!

Cycling is definitely the best cardio and leg stamina activity for snowboarding. I've been trying to get fit for a couple of months after being very lazy and gaining a bit of a beer gut. I had to put a new hole in my belt the other day so I must be doing something right...

Cycling has been the backbone of my rugby pre season training. It works well for leg and lung stamina. I do around 25 miles a day on the days we don't do any contact training.

That combined with cleans, squats and a mental 15 min core program that ruins your abs.

mountain biking and basketball for me, not really to get fit for the winter, but more to get back into shape after the last winter season....

Lets face it, how fit do really have to be to snowboard! Wink

Concur...

Although I think it's a good thing to want to keep yourself fit. I know when there is a large group of us near the end of the day it's those who don't train who struggle the most to keep up, keep the legs working etc....

I wouldn't bother with calf raises... the most ridiculous and pointless exercise (apart from the shake weight) I can think of.

I think it also depends on how you want to ride. If you want to lap a park then flexibility will help (you bounce, and make grabs). If you want to session rails or kickers then you'll be hiking at altitude. If you are going into back country with hiking then get your ass to a gym and interval train to improve your VO2 max...

other than that make sure you stay pub fit... being able to drink until 0400-0500 and then get the first lift is the most important fitness of all.

Starting at the end of the month, though having just bought a house I've binned off my gym membership to save some cash. Going to be lots of cycling and free weights at home this year probably with couple of trips to pool a week thrown in as well.

Unfortunately have had to scale the hill-walking back over the last few months as one of my 2 dogs now has a heart condition, otherwise that would be a mainstay for me as well.

People can scoff at those of us who train for our boarding, but once you're the wrong side of 30 you certainly see the benefits - I only wish I'd done it more when I was the right side of 30.... Neutral
