Just incase you don't know what's going on (somehow):
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-14450248
I think the current riot police are ineffective, outnumbered, expensive, vulenerable and don't pose a threat.
A much more effective alternative would be non-lethal weapons such as tear gas and water cannons.
I prefer my idea of grapple guns:
1. They're not deadly.
2. They're scary and threating
3. They capture the person on a barbed hook
4. They look bad ass.

Well the fact now everyone carries a camera phone, and idiots stupid enough to riot are also stupid enough to post about it and tag themselves on facebook, at least that did for the majority of the idiotic sheep who joined in the Riots over here... i imagine the same will happen there...

+1 for the water cannon, but using water from the Thames.

Out of interest why do we not use water cannon in this country?? Is it as we are too civilised??

Should take notice of how they do it in mainland europe and deploy a little CS gas...

It's only a matter of time before the military are called.

Batons would be my problem solver. Give one of them a well publicised sh1t kicking and see how many of them are out 'protesting' the next night.

I think they should roll a couple of tanks down the road and see how quick those f**kers disperse!!!!

I am so mad and appalled at what those pricks are doing that I think we should throw everything we can at them and arrest and imprison every last one!!!! There is no excuse for burning people's homes to the ground!!! Furious Furious Mad Mad

Actually riot police uniforms should be made more intimidating. They should all wear respirators, so those rioting know there may be a good chance that CS gas will be deployed. Athough we have a controlled police force, we still seem to be warm and fuzzy. It doesn't help when the acting Met commissioner goes on the news and uses words like 'thuggery' and asks for parents to check where their children are

Couldn't agree more with that comment. Only seem to be intimidating when screwing over tax payers with speed traps...

There needs to be a clear out in the upper echelons of police management and home office. Police need to a force again and not a service.

feck being softly softly...
