Okay, so this is pretty simple...
For the last 2 years, I've had a Blackberry Bold (9000) and love it's ease of use and functionality, but it's getting old and I'm due an upgrade... So much has happened with smartphones since I got my Bold and I have not really kept up with everything that has happened so am now at a bit of a loss as to the "best" phones on the market.
So, knowing this, I'd like you to tell me what smartphones you are all using and their real world pros and cons.
Please note, I'm not after another iPhone vs the world thread, I have an iPod Touch and know how an iPhone works and at the moment, I'm ruling them out. |

| Im using the Samsung Galaxy S2. Its a very good phone and i would recommend it. I too went from BB and found the transition a little odd but it took no time at all to get used too. its fast, both processing and browsing plus is easier to view full websites. The apps are good however not all apps are available for android phones which is annoying. Im not a fan of the keyboard as its touchscreen so can't feel the buttons but there are a few different layouts available. Its sometimes hard to write in boxes online i.e. SCUK forum as it goes off screen and i can't seem to bring it back without editing it btw mistake but i just write what i want to say in a message and copy and paste it now. My biggest gripe is its really intensive on battery usage. At home normal app use etc it will last a full day and charge overnight but if you turn off data means and remember to clear memory in task manager and close open apps then you can get 2-2.5days which i think is good for a phone as powerful as this. With the app situation I've noticed even if you force stop some apps, after say an hour or so some start up again. These seem to be mainly Maps, and voice command. Only way I've heard that will solve this is by booting it and installing freeze software like titanium etc. Apart from that its good, if you want to ask questions feel free as be only covered th basics really. Oh one more thing is the emails are pull not push like the BB so you don't get an email as soon as its received in your inbox and they do seem to eat your data usage. |

I have and would say an iPhone, but that's just my opinion.
(iPhone 5 rumoured to be out sometime in September ) |

iPhone.
Used to have an HTC, variety of friends who dont own iPhones have one of any other smart phone you can think of, and the iPhone wins hands down.
Speed, functionality, even reliabilty.
Get a 3gs, save a load of money on getting the iphone 4 (as i think its really uncomfortable to hold) and enjoy |

| I have a motorola defy, its android and fairly smooth and quick. not the biggest screen in the world but you can drop it in a swimming pool/ the bath etc and its fine, its also shockproof dustproof and scratchproof, so if youre a person who wrecks phones then its damn good, if not then there are better android phones out there. |

I have a HTC desire sense and I'm very impressed with it. My daughter has the the I phone 3gs and have got to disagree with the others, mine beats hers hands down and she agrees with me much to her disgust. battery usage is a pain but I always have a spare charger on me and other makes of phone fit it so there's always someone with a charger. Loads of free apps that have come in useful and amusing. I don't have it attached to work though but can access my personal emails whenever I want, so can't really comment on it for being in work 24/7. the camera on it is really good for my needs so don't bother taking my normal camera with me now.
Downsides I haven't really found yet but I'm sure there are loads. |

| I'd heard battery life was an issue with them, but if they charge of a mini USB that's not a huge issue these days. |

| I have had an n97 for the best part of 2 years and haven't given another phone a second look until the e7 which is pretty similar but a little big, slimmer, better screen HDMI and all the newer pretty things. The OS is pretty nice if you keep it up to date too, had a shot of it in a shop and the screen is amazing, give it a look if you like slide/flip phones with full tactile keyboards, touch screen keyboards piss me off something awful. Won't be getting one myself as my current phone is still the mutts nutts. |

goto a phone shop and try the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the HTC Sensation - both the top-dog dual-core phones of the moment.
I used to have a HTC Hero and liked the interface (and gf has a Samsung phone and hate its system) so waited for the Sensation and think it's great, but in all honesty, think I'd try the S2 if i was to buy again as the txt interface is a little "agricultural." But, not tried the S2, so dunno if the same niggles (for me) exist there - grass is always greener and all that.
bottom line - all these fancy smartphones, whether iPhone(y), S2, Sensation or whatever rely on capacitive touch-screen use (needs your finger or something conductive) - if you want something to use while wearing normal gloves then they're all sh1t compared to the "backwards" physical keyboard of a blackberry (or even the HTC Desire Z if you want an android option). |

Yeah battery life is an issue but I have everything going in the background including an automatic weather update (this causes me much pleasure as when it forcasts rain it has window wipers on the screen, I know I know but the little things please me ) if you turn all that off it lasts a couple of days. Think its a mini usb port that charges it, Samsung ones fit it. |

i am a bit of a phone nerd to be honest, in the past 2 months i have had an iphone, a htc desire, a htc sensation and a samsung SG2.
all have been jailbroken or rooted and all the android phones rooted and have had different roms installed than the stock ones.
If you use google for your email or use google calendar then consider going along the android route. they will do most anything you want them to, and if you fancy hacking them they are fun and easy to do and very close to impossible to brick.
most modern phones are driving large colour screens and most modern phone manufacturers are chasing ever slimmer phones. These 2 things together mean battery life is going to suffer, the days of 10 days on standby are probably just a memory now.
i have settled on the Samsung Sg2. its will survive a full day of heavy use before it needs charging, it has a decent camera, its nice and slim for the pocket and the hacking community is thriving for it. |

| For the people with issues with the standard Android keyboard, there are several alternative keyboards which have a better layout, are more accurate, have better word prediction and are just generally nicer. I use better keyboard (don't get on with ones like Swype) which is great. |
