Sorry to bring back a random thread on the topic, but ive just been looking at the ContourROAM (purely for something to do) and i cant work out if the recording format is any different between the US and UK versions.
If it records in NTSC rather than PAL, will that make it so i cant play/edit any footage on my UK macbook/TV? |

J not too sure if you've found this info already, hope it helps!
Contour Roam- AV Spec
Full HD - 1920 x 1080 @ 30/25fps
Tall HD - 1280 x 960 @ 30/25fps
Action HD - 1280 x 720 @ 30/25fps
Photo Mode: 1,3,5,10,30,60
5MP Sensor
Codec - H.264/AAC / File Type - MOV
AAC Audio Compression
the Contour GPS shows similar settings* and i've had no issue with the play back of my videos on my macbook but as far as i am aware there is no difference between the two
*GPS has Action HD in 1280 x 720 @ 60/50, however if your ROAM comes with firmware V1.0 you can get the 1280 x 720 @ 60/50 setting unless you update the firmware then you loose it |

hey
i just picked up a contourhd 1080p off ebay for £115. seems to be almost the same as the roam
as for ntsc and pal those are old formats that dealt with the way composite signals were produced. as there is no composite coming out of this camera you dont need to worry.
it will work fine on any computer |

The difference between PAL and NTSC is pretty much irrelevant for digital formats, it's just a different framerate which only becomes important when going straight to TV which in this case is when recording to DVD.
On the Contour range you can set either 25 / 50 fps (PAL) or 30 / 60 fps (NTSC). The ROAM won't do the higher frame rates though.
Personally I record at 30 / 60 on the camera then if I do need to put it to DVD then convert it at that time. |
