If I had any area of privacy in my garden i'd do this, no need for anything special:
http://www.afterbang.co.uk/blog/2010/05/26/how-to-make-a-balance-rail-to-improve-your-snowboarding/

if you want it round instead of flat-topped then goto B+Q and get a length of pipe that will fit around the wood - cut so it fits between the feet and screw in at each end.

vid of it in use:

Cheers derek that looks waaaay simpler than what I had in mind. I think my idea over engineered it looking at that. Same wood I have so happy days.
I went to road works but they had pissed off by the time I got there after work. Will see if I can sneak out earlier tmorra. Ill prob build that rail and then cut the piping length ways so I can put it on like a cable tidy and have a variation of things to play on, and as someone pointed out in the comments when it snow next year I can use it for real, roll on next winter!! Got the perfect place lined up right outside my house, park bench (with a ply wood board placed down it as a run in) then a nice gentle down hill slope to put the rail on. I'm excited about winter and its April. Its gona be a long summer!

You could prop up one end on some blocks so you can get a bit of a slide going. Would be great to practise side hits

Yeah was thinking that, only thing is my garden aint long enough so I'd end up landing on the stone/paved area or starting on the paved area and ending on the grass, might have a think see if I can get it set up to slide, might just stick with this and go from there. Ill get pics and vid's up soon when I get chance to build it, got a busy few weeks so might be one night next week see how it goes.

forgot to mention in earlier post... another diy home jib-training tool:
http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/basic-tee-1504930/
a sturdy rugby ball stand-thing. Maverix use these (or something v v similar) on their course - pop onto it and hold balance. Far less space (and no building needed) than a diy-rail but obviously not as realistic. For the price it's worth getting hold of one and keeping it with your board/gear.

The little cones dont damage your base. Really good for working body position and balance for front/back boardslides. Just fun to mess on too

Doubt they will be there by time I get there today and not goan be there all weekend now, doh!

This looks like a good crack to me, I think I would defo think of giving it some angle so you could slide down, and maybe see if the local dry slope can spare a piece of dendix to land on-sweet

finally built the rail after almost a year!! got some gas pipe about a month after the original post and it got nicked from outside my house! i think the council took it to be fair. here is a link its actually pretty good for getting the correct balance points nailed and as its quite narrow makes it a bit of a challenge. Hopefully with snow potentially coming to the area i may get to try it on real snow. The bench is there to show scale etc, ill also be leaning it on there to practice 'on the move' too so can have a jib session in my garden!!
