Just back from a brilliant week in Sestriere and took a few videos.
If any of you guys have a few spare minutes can you have a wee look and tell me if there's anything I'm doing right/wrong?
I seem to go from toe to heel no bother but struggle a bit from heel to toe...

not bad your definitely better as you say going toe to heel but your guilty of kicking the board round the same as 90% of riders on the hill.
You need to try and engage the edge and use that to turn the board, although i'm not really sure how to go about explaining the how too's I'm sure someone with a better grasp on teaching methods will be along shortly |

As above, but I'd also say you need to have confidence in yourself, your riding and your board. Commit to the turn and get off the brakes.
Gutted I never got over to Sestriere . |

You are like a regular version of me, short toe turns and long heel turns to take the speed out before you feel comfortable with the next toe turn!
How long have you been riding for? I've just done my 4th week and found I had a sudden leap in confidence (probably aided by lovely soft snow!), which really helped with my toe turns - still much prefer my heel edge though!
I think the main thing is to have confidence in yourself, and as a French instructor once said to me 'accept zee speed, eet is part of zee deal'! Try and get into a rhythm with your turns where you spend as long on your toes as your heels and don't take all the speed off on your heels - yes you will go faster but try and get used to that, you look like you have enough control to slow down quickly if you need to. You could try counting to three in your head for each turn so that they are the same length.
The other thing to remember is that if you are enjoying yourself and in control, it really doesn't matter if your technique is not perfect!
I hope that helps a bit! |

Hey Mini,
Normally go to Cas as it's easiest to get to, but we do go to Chillfactore sometimes. Thanks for the offer, that's very kind of you. Do you go during the day?

Haven't watched the vid, but +1 on recommendation. Haven't rode with Ash yet, but Andy's a great teacher. |

What winter says is spot on - a one to one would be ideal.
If you can get Ash or one of the guys from snowboardcoach.co.uk it would be great, but they're not up here in Scotland so much. I'm just back from doing my instructor course with him and wouldnt mind giving you a few pointers to get you started.
I'd look first at your posture to get you more relaxed and using the board to turn rather than kicking it round and throwing your arms. Try turning with keeping your hands on your thighs - bend at the knees and ankles rather than the waist though.
Also, have a look at your turns and make sure they are as symetrical as possible.
Any decent instructor could help you improve as you clearly have a grasp of the basics - it's just giving you some pointers to make it all come together a bit better.
Above all, keep riding as much as possible with good riders and you'll progress much faster.
Any questions give me a shout - I should be kicking about at Xscape during the summer anyway. |

Having just done an evening session with Gary and the guys from Snowboard Coach I can add to Winters point, They do evening performance courses all over which are fantastic for someone who just needs some pointers.
I have learnt loads from these guys in just a few sessions. |
