I was just in the process of renewing my SCUK insurance and I noticed a troublesome new exclusion clause.
Quote:
Please note: Winter sports activities are insured subject to the appropriate premium having been paid, if using a recognised piste. Random ‘off piste’ winter sports activities will only be insured if with a qualified instructor or in a group of not less than 3 persons in possession of working communications or portable telephone. No cover for winter sports activities against local authority advice
This is a change from last year (I keep all documentation and checked) and, as far as I'm concerned, a deal breaker as sometimes it is just the missus and I off piste together.
Hopefully Dunx can clear this up, but if not then I'm in the market for new insurance. |

This was indeed posted, in full and clearly/publicly!
It is still better than most other policys which require you to be with a guide.
What is it with insurance threads the past few days!! |

| yeh it's not quite as awesome as last year, BUT it's still generally much better than any other insurance out there, so unless you can find something better out there then there's no point in whinging. |

I've done the searches and - fair enough - Dunx did flag up the change. But it's a deal-breaker for me and I found a policy last night that doesn't have these restrictions (nor the guide one) so, sadly, no more SCUK insurance for me. |

| What company was that. I took out mine last month so won't change anyway for the moment, but useful to know for next year as quite often when I go away it's just me and a mate so we wouldn't be covered. |

do bear in mind that the singe item equipment limit on the scuk policy is £800.
a lot of the other insurance out there will only cover all equipment up to ~£500. in that respect, the scuk insurance is in a class of it's own. |

PM me. Suffice to say it's another club... but not a snowboarding one! |

| If it means I don't get a £20K bill for being choppered back from the off-piste when it's just me and the missus on holiday, then yes. 'Improved cover' is actually just 'cover'. |

| Hahaha. I can't actually find where it tells me anything about riding off-piste other than that it's covered in any of the pdf's/FAQ's, could someone link? |

All the SCGB insurance is here. In the policy document, the wording says:
Quote:
Winter sports
• Big-foot skiing, cross-country skiing, curling, dog sledding, glacier skiing, ice skating, off-piste skiing / snowboarding, mono-skiing, skiing, recreational ski racing, ski touring (including where
ropes are involved for safety reasons) snowboarding, snowparks, snowshoeing, sledging, snow blading, telemark and tobogganing.
Searching through the rest of the document there are no exclusion clauses for off-piste.
I haven't purchased this yet (my SCUK cover takes me til the end of March), but unless something changes, looks like this will be the way I go. |
