That's rather sensationalist.
This thread doesn't tell anyone how to defraud HMRC anymore than their own website does Nick, it clearly states that there are stringent penalties in the OP and that it is illegal to undervalue and mark products as gifts where they're not.
People will do what people will do, I'm not encouraging anyone to break the law - the purpose of this post was to try and help people know what the rules are, and how to calculate.
Many people look at importing from the US due to stock issues in the UK or great offers stateside and want to know if it is a good deal after all appropriate charges have been added without braking the law. |

I didnt say you were encouraging anyone to do anything did i, did i mention you?
However some peoples responses are telling others how to get away without paying import duty.....which is ilegal.
I couldnt care less either way but as i clearly said, i'm curious to know what the legal poition is and if the website would be held accountable for letting people post information about how to commit fraud. |

Yeah, that's fair enough, I'd be interested too.
Perhaps the offending comments could be removed/edited as the thread was intended to be helpful, though if it's a ball ache for Dunx/mods I'd say just remove it entirely I guess! |

We can certainly be held accountable for the content of our site, but these things are so grey it's unbelievable. See the footer of the site... no idea whether that would protect us and nobody is really stating anything that most people don't already know.
Good post. Will sticky. |

| I've noticed that on many sport or hobby forums in which people import goods from abroad there's always a thread regarding import duty etc. As dunx said so very grey. |

| I'm not sure anyone was actually encouraging people to avoid import duties, just pointing out what they've experienced. I for one never even requested the shop to put the wrong amount on the customs form, they just did it themselves. |

so after all this ......... still best to support your local uk shop just a thought
Generally speaking, yeah! But there's something wrong with the world if you can ship the same board from the states to the UK and pay all relevant fees and it still be cheaper! Sometimes stuff isn't in stock etc as in Hayley's case.
Though in that case I'd probably ask for a price match first |

Haha this has all got a bit out of hand!
winterfunman, nice profile pic, and also I would have LOVED to get it in the UK, much preferred, but there just wasn't left anywhere in the UK! |

Updated to post this site: http://www.dutycalculator.com/
Easy to use site, to calculate it for you find the relevant section at: Sports & Leisure -> Snowsports -> Snowboards.
Enter your figures, and it'll do the leg work for you. |
