I have a dilemma.
Its new company car time.... I have decided that with a kid, rottweiler, and having to drive to scotland 6 or more time a year the Audi A3 I had my heart set on will be tooooo small.
They have to be new.
so contendors....
VW Passat estate Diesel 170 TDI
Volvo V50 D4 177 R Design GT
Seat EXEO estate diesel 170 TDI
skoda Octavia estate diesel 170 TDI
BMW 320D touring
Should I be considering a skoda Yeti?
is there anything that I should be looking at that I have missed?
Can't quite afford the A4 avant.... it is £30000+ new :*(
please help me....
PS I don't want anything french. |

Been a BMW specialist garage i would go that way , but also having done the launch work with SKODA , they rock mate , if ppl just forget the logo , its a VW anyway ...great fun , cheaper insurance etc ( not that it matters with a company car)
An i spent a whole two days doing passenger rides in a SKODA ROOMSTER, talk about fun
Have fun choosing |

Can you get a Prius? I know it's a bit of a veggie youghurt-mobile, but I think that you get some form of tax break if you have one as a company car.
Worth looking in to. |

I would steer clear of the Passat. colleagues have had the saloons and had nothing but grief with them, and have a mk6 golf that i am not overly impressed with. Personally, from your list i would go with the volvo, especially if it's the sports model. I test drove one and they do fly. I have friend who's son is a keen cycle racer and he ditched a disco for the v50 to cart his lad's bikes round the country. the other plus is servicing costs. Although the service intervals are around 12,000 miles on the volvo, you are not hit with a hefty service bill at 80k miles to change the timing belts as you would be with all the other diesels on the list. Volvos have timing chains instead and do not need to be replaced.
One key decision is how much you will get stung in tax. I thought golf was not a bad option, but that and my fuel card is seen as £6.5k perk by HMRC. So have no money to do anything but a surplus of fuel to go anywhere in the UK. Anyone from MK fancy piling in the car and having a free trip to Scotland one weekend to board??
Centre console on v50 is way so coooll |

+1 for a V50
I got rid of my Clio 182 (a riot to drive on the highland roads, but totally impractical for more than 2 people) and got a V50 D5 Sport for heading up to the mountains.
After the Clio, I was looking for something that still had a bit of grunt to it. The V50 can easily nip by buses/caravans/tourists on the A82, yet it can fit 4 people plus kit for the weekend without the need for a roofbox.
Messing around with it in Glencoe |

Mondeo Titanium? I know its a Ford, but having driven a few I hate to say that I can't fault them.
Other than that, I'd go with the Bimmer |

Its a company car, so maintenance isn't a factor I have to think of, nor are tyres etc...
The volvo V50 is only a D4 on my list stevie... 177bhp? and I'm going from a similar car to you stevie, Civic type R, which coiincidentally is miles biger than a A3 sportback and has very similar luggage capacity as an A4 avant!
If I opt out i can afford whatever I want! been rather tempted by rs6 avant for 20K but the running would be a fortune...
And barry! are you calling me gay!? prius... pfffft. |

while waiting for my company car I had the fortune and misfortune to have a few of those as hire car's. He's my opinion.
VW Passat Estate - feels like a massive car but once you get used to it, its a pretty good car, solid build and comfortable, the driver position feels like a cockpit to start with. mahoosive boot, can easily fit all your boards in with room to spare. Plus fuel economy is really good on this. only bad thing is the handbrake 'button'.
Skoda Octavia - tin pot excuse for a car. the feel of this car after driving the Passat is a very cheap feeling alternative. day one i was driving back home on the M42, put the wipers on and the wiper blades fired off the side of the car and the wipers stopped working. fuel economy is worse than the passat.
Now i have a BMW 320d Msport, av 50mpg and its a pretty impressive mmotor. only problem is you pay through the nose for any extras (£255 for folding rear seats!)
go for the VW or BMW but steer clear of the Skoda |

I know, I know. My brother has one as his company car and I slayed him for it for a looooong time. But, it has saved him a fair wack on tax though and with a nipper on the was every penny counts right?
If you want to balance things out spend every Sunday burning old car tyres while eating raw steak and kicking grandma's down the stairs. |

yeah it would save me a fortune in tax... dunno if I could drive one all the time though... the diesel units are pretty frugal, and only 18% tax compared to the 33% I am paying out for the civic...
I have just seen an A4 avant that i can afford but its not the lowest spec they do but still pretty basic... is it just me or does it seem audi's arent worth buying unless they have the sline package minimum....? |
