Mal, if you seriously want to lose some poundage, my first piece of advice is dont take advice from boadermonkey Wink get yourself to a gym and talk to people who know what they are talking about.

Quote:

Start off by doing some 10 to 15 minute gentle jogs, 5 minutes on the bike and maybe 5 mins on the X trainer. Bout 3 times a week should do you.
After a couple of weeks step the speed up.
Couple more weeks of that and increase the speed/time.

Firstly the cross trainer, bike and also rower machines are far better than running as they are low impact machines. saving your ankles and knees from constant pounding.
you dont need to build up speed, instead increase time on each machine and frequency of exercise.

eh im not trying to dis you boardermonkey, totally agree on most of what you had to say.

combine the cardio exercise with something like this..

http://www.snow.co.nz/activities/exercises.asp

and you will be loving it. Good Luck bro.

I feel quite strongly on this subject... 'nothing worse than a fat kid' is right, there are so many about now, here in the uk not just the usa, it makes me feel ill. ive worked as an instructor in USA, the number of kids and adults that couldnt get from sitting to standing (due to big macs) was unreal.
of course everyone deserves to have a go at snowboarding, but before you do you should have a basic level of fitness, this will allow you to get the most enjoyment out of it. IMO. most of the overweight people i tried to teach got so frustrated because they couldnt make much progress, due to being constantly out of breath or being unable to stand up on there own!

Wanna lose weight? Just remember the following things

A) Mathematics:

Average male needs 2500 calories per day
3500 calories = 1 pound of fat
14 pounds = 1 stone of fat

You can do the maths to figure out how much food you need to drop down and also how much exercise you can do to drop weight at a decent rate.

B)
And women ALWAYS pretend that looks don't matter but they do, and we all know they do. I've seen sane women go crazy the munite a six pack has been shown. Women are just so shallow!!Wink *

* You need a body fat of around 14% or less for a six pack to show.

I would just like to say thats not necessarily true. I'm rather fond of little beer bellys. They make lovely cushions when you are watching films and stuff. Six packs just aren't as cuddly or lovely.

So there

I hear this lots of times. But take a look down the local gym and you'll see 3 types of people.

1/ The big fat lard-arses are always on the cross trainer or bike.
2/ The steroid jockeys play with the free weights
3/ The fit, but not overly muscular people are usually on the running machine.

You can give me all the theory you want, but go to a gym, count the people with the bodies you would like, take one point off for the people with bodies you don't want. Now, do that for the running machines, the cross trainers, the bikes and the weight machines. I'll bet you the highest score will be on the running machines and weight machines.
