Bring your knees up for the grab rather than leaning down to get it, helped me no end!

maybe if you think of really popping, almost ollieing off the kicker. Depends on the size of the kicker and how much you need to pop off, but if you think of the mechanics of ollieing it involves sucking up the trailing leg as you leave the ground, which will then get the board in range of grabbing

Agree with Ace here: Ollieing rather than just hitting it and relying on the angle of the kicker to give you air will get your board up and makes landings alot more controllable.

make sure that your ride into the kicker is correct first of all, you see so many people riding into kickers turning, speed checking scrubbing a bit of speed etc etc that by the time they actually hit it there's all tied up in knots.

pick a spot to drop into the kicker from and ride into it in a straight line with no turns, make sure that your board and shoulders are in a line. dont try and grab it, just make sure that everything is where it should be and gently suck up your knees.

once you've done it a few times and everything is where it should be grabs will be a piece of pi$$

Cheers lads, Pete defo think thats got a lot to do with it as i normally hit it after the box so i do tend to do a few speed checks before hitting it.

is it the kicker at tam then?? its not the best of kickers to learn on as its difficult to drop into because of the box Sad

just ride in with a monkey type stance with your hands pointing towards the nose and tail, that way you'll know that your hitting the kicker with your shoulders straight to the board.

Once everything is straight grabs are easy, if your not straight they can be a real bitch! Very Happy

If you are bring your lead leg up but not your trailing leg, go for nose grabs all the time. You are almost there with your jumps by the sound of it Smile

I usually drop in with out speed checking and just as i'm about to hit the rise of the kicker squat in the middle of the board (centred with weight even between front and back foot and from toe to heel) then pop just as my lead foot is about to leave the lip of the kicker. As you've centre popped your legs will be lifting and you just carry the motion on bringing your knees towards your chest. hopefully the board will be within range for the grab.
then as you let the grab go extend your legs and feel for the landing making sure to match the angle so you don't land heavy on one foot.

I was pretty garbage at the start of the year but went on a course with Chris Skinner and now can grab.

i worked out that there is a rhythm to jumping for me and as i got the first bits right i could move to getting the rest right.

I've put some links to centred popping, really helpful to understand the mechanics of the pop.

Kickers?

I remember them, my Grandad still fondly recounts tails about them in the olden days.

The Key aspects website is good, I can really really recommend the Snowboard addiction coaching videos though. They break it down well and make it look simple.

Really good stuff....

I'll second that. Got them on my phone and they're great for watching while in resort. It was about £30 for all their videos, plus a load of mp3s and some PDF guides - pretty good value I thought. Not sure I'd bother if I didn't have a phone to play them on though - as they'd be much less useful/interesting to watch sat at home.
