| It's all part of SCUK now officially linked with the home nations. Stu knows all the details, but I'd contact info@ in the first instance. |

RE: Mobile phones/trancievers issue.
When I was speaking to my guide in Chamonix last week he said that mobile phones and trancievers do not interfere with each other (and tests have been carried out to prove this).
This is fully understandable as trancievers operate at a frequency band of 457 kHz where mobile phones operate anywhere between 800 - 1900 MHz. I think the problem has arised from old style analogue trancievers which used to operate at a much higher frequency. Digital trancievers do not have this problem

That article seems to suggest that when searching, mobile phones should be turned off as they can interfere with the search beacon, but there isn't a problem if the buried victim has their phone on because it doesn't interfere with the transmitter.
Thanks for the info though. |

For reference, a friend of mine (Sascha Hamm) only survived his avalanche because he had his phone switched on.. even though he had a tranceiver on he actually guided the helicopter to land pretty much next to him based on loudness of the heli (he was 6ft under the snow).. he was also riding on his own!
Clearly we don't encourage this and if you know Sascha you'll never follow him down a run anyway.. |
