I'll be updating the policy documents available at www.snowboardclub.co.uk/insurance tomorrow, but so you know the off-piste cover is now worded...

Quote:
Winter sports activities are insured subject to the appropriate premium having been paid, if using a recognised piste. Random ‘off piste’ winter sports activities will only be insured if with a qualified instructor or in a group of not less than 3 persons in possession of working communications or portable telephone. No cover for winter sports activities against local authority advice.

Before it said you were covered off-piste if "accompanied". Now there needs to be at least 3 people, all with phones. That's sensible anyway, but is a change to previous wording, so I thought I'd highlight the change. The vast majority of policies simply won't cover you at all off piste or insist you be with a qualified guide.

You do get £5,000,000 3rd party liability cover when riding in the UK included as part of your SCUK Membership. That is a recent addition and covers all current members. Details here www.snowboardclub.co.uk/pack

I took my cover out last week. Does that mean I will be on the old rules as I'm planning on doing a bit of off-piste when I'm out there?

Cheers,

I imagine you'll be covered by whatever documents you were issued with at the time of purchase.

Just make sure your phone is switched off unless you need to make a call. Transceivers / mobiles don't work well together and I'd much rather have my transceiver working constantly when I was off piste.

Good point, well made! I'll pass that on to tgic as it's possibly asking people to put themselves at additional risk! I think the new wording is from Lloyds specifically, so may be a widely used restriction on other policies. I've suggested they contact avalanche transceiver manufacturers to seek clarification.

Regarding the 3rd part UK coverage, what do we do in the unlikely event that it's needed?
