Hey

Last year I paid for the extra 'sports equipment' baggage with Easyjet (GLA-GEN), and packed it full with 2 boards, boots, bindings, helmets and clothing! When I checked in at the desk they said the weight limit on it was only 12kg (apparently it was in the small-print!), so I had to pay an embarrassing sum for overweight baggage!

My question is, does anyone just buy normal 'extra baggage' for a board bag, which gets you about 20kg or does it have to be 'sports equipment'?

Back to Tignes again in January Very Happy

Cheers
D

i think you'll find that normal extra baggage excludes winter sports equipment. I think Easyjet have set their limit so low because they're wanting you to pay for a board bag and your normal baggage. Thieving bstards.

I was just having a look at sleezy jet the other day and I was a bit confused about weight limits too. If I pay for a snowboard bag it costs £18.50 (each way I assume). If I can fit all my gear in my board bag then I don't want a regular suitcase.

Does this mean that I get a 20Kg weight limit on my board bag or a 32Kg weight limit on it?

Their web site is less than clear in this particular area. I think I should get 20Kgs and if you only get a 32Kg total if you have both a regular suitcase and a board bag i.e. your case can be up to 20Kg and you board bag has to come in at 12Kg.

Anyone have any actual experience?

yeah if you pay for board bag and normal bag you get 32 kilo split between the 2 bags (but they don't usually weigh the board bag)

if you just pay for board bag you get 12 kilo (but they usually don't weigh it)

if you pay for just normal bag you get 20 kilo

interestingly i've got an email from sleazy jet confirming that the 32 kilo can be split between the 2 bags (if paying for both) in any way you want. however i found out that this wasn't the case whilst in sofia airport.

The lady serving me didn't give a sh1t about the email, it was fine though i just took my sleeping bag out of the board bag and put it into my normal bag

hope this helps Smile

It would pay to be more careful in the current financial climate first and foremost as everything will get tighter.
They are not about too make friends when they can make money from ambuguious terms and conditions.

The people who draft those terms will have done so knowingly.
It would be very simple too show 3 or 4 sports luggage picture senarios, like the guns, fireworks, knives picture types, which is so obvious anyway after 9/11 who actually needs those.

But they choose not too which means they can send the word down, too be tighter on luggage rules or not.
Then just add other countrys airports into the mix and as above what can you do?
I always saw it as 1x20kg bag and 1x12kg sports bag but some get through with 32kgs in one board bag only?.
I would have thought the 1x 32kg sports board bag would be more risky and if they really wanted more money, leaves it open to a sh1t fight .

Hmm, paying for a suitcase (which really isn't needed) and a board bag puts the price way, way up (£36.50 each way) and makes it actually more expensive to get my gear to/from the alps than it is to get me there/back!! Think I'll be flying BA if that's the case ... from what I can tell they let you take a board bag instead of a suitcase & give you the full luggage allowance for it Thumbs Up

If you want a standard hold bag then it costs you 18quid and must not weigh more than 20kg

If you want a board bag then it costs u £18.50 and must not weigh more than 32kg

You can have 1 or the other, or both if you want to pay for both, but if you have both then your total combined weight of the two bags must be no more than 50kg.

You also get 1 piece of hand luggage for free. Dont see why you'd need any more then hand luggage and a boardbag unless your doing a season

Costs are 1 way, so 18.50 = 37quid for a return trip

Flew GLA-GVA with Easyjet last December and our weight limit was 32kg.

As to not getting boardbag weighed, gotta say that my boardbag has always been weighed when flying from GLA or EDI.

Flying with Jet2 in Feb and March and have got a bad feeling about getting hit. Have paid for board carriage, but their site says the limit is 20kg (but you get 22kg for a suitcase !) and my boardbag always weighs near 30kg.[/i]

If you rocked up with 2 bags (1board and 1luggage) and the combined total was 50kg, you would have to pay excess baggage charge on 18kg.

Your free (or prepayed) limit is 32 kg combined

SleazyJet Webpage wrote:

Payment of the additional fee increases your checked-in hold baggage allowance (including additional item) to a maximum weight of 32kg.

Where your total checked-in hold baggage weighs more than 32kgs, normal excess baggage charges as set out in our carrier’s regulations shall apply in addition to the above fee.

Thats just dirty. It totally tells you one thing in one paragraph then something else in another.

Its also changed from last year when you had a hold bag for free and only payed extra for sports equipment

Hey liggins ... so the bit you've quoted was the bit on the web site I was reading. I couldn't work out from it whether you had to have booked a suitcase as well in order to get the 32kg allowance or whether booking just a board bag allows me 32kg. If you read the paragraph about hold allowances and then the one about sports equipment ... any ideas?? Is FunkyMonky right with the 32kg for a board bag off paying £18.50?? They must make loads of money off making these Ts & Cs soooo confusing Sad

Right to summaries, this is how i understand it:

1 standard luggage bag is up to 20 kilo

1 snowboard bag is up to 12 kilo

If you purchase both you can up have up to 32 kilo accros both bags; however they claim this can be split however you wish, but in my experience i have found that this is dependent on the person that serves you on the desk.

Your maximum is 50 kilo (as this is the max that anyone person can carry) but you'll have to pay excess charge on 18 kilo)

Also no 1 bag can be over 32 as this is the limit that baggage handlers will carry

If you only have one bag which contains both your snowboard and all your clothes. I think it really depends on who serves you. The T&C's are particularly vague and don't cover this specific enquiry.

A google search will confirm that many many people are asking this same question.

Personally i would pay for both, because it's still cheaper than paying double in the airport both sides.
