I asked this question on the BSA Facebook Page back in June, and got a holding response so thought i would ask on here, as it was implied that SCUK was the BSA membership body.....
Quote:
I was a BSA member back in the 90's, and it was all a very rider driven organisation, with AGM's and elected board members who took forward the views and desires of it's members into account when deciding on the future direction of UK Snowboarding. Is this still how the BSA operates/plans to operate? or is it more of a governing body that makes decisions based on it's view of what's best??
the response was
Quote:
Branny, there is much work going on behind the scenes by people who are involved from a riders perspective but expect more opportunities in the near future for others to get more involved once a relatively clear direction has been created.
however 3 months down the line and well into the BST there doesn't seem to be any way forward being shown to it's members, Kat has been employed as a riders rep for the BST, and a load of other comps/organisers have been approached to go in with the BST as a UK league (similar to TTR so that smaller comps are a lesser 'star' even) in an attempt to get more grass roots comp promoting the BST as the next step. (not sure if this is general knowledge been i've been told by enough people..if i know 6000 miles away it ain't a secret!!)
It was also said that that SCUK is the membership body of the BSA, is this the case? because at the end of the month i plan to drop by scuk membership, but i will not if it is also my BSA entitlement to comment as a member.... i'm not sure if i'm joining a club or an association... does part of my subs go towards the BSA? or just to SCUK ltd??
I appreciate that the BSA needs to be run, 'like' a business it should be remembered that it is still an association, i appreciate that in 2010/11 the snowsports environment in the UK is not the same as it was in '96/7, and we can't all comment on every issue, but in my opinion, as an association, with members, the boards dealings, decisions and the effect on UK snowboarding should be visible to those members.
The BSA should be there to support all snowboarding in the UK, from the grom strapping into his board for the first time, to our athletic brethren heading for FIS & Olympic glory.
And whilst i agree that the BSA should be working hard to secure funding and sponsorship for the athletes, it should also be ensuring that the needs and opinions of normal riders are also catered for, ensuring that a healthy scene remains on home soil and even if that means just keeping us all informed.
Anyway.. i'm a bit all over the place, but what i'm really asking for is some updates from the BSA about direction, some explanation about the link between SCUK/Soulsports/BSA and it's membership scheme etc
hope all that wibble makes sense
cheers
Branny

Loving the passion Branny! That's what it's all about.
Hopefully, we'll get some honest & up-to-date information soon.
PS: 'BSA Snowboarding' is not associated with The BSA (British Snowboard Association) |
