Hey,
Trying to get to Whistler for 2 weeks at the end of Jan to visit our mates who are doing a season out there. We can't stay with them so we need to sort ourselves out.
Looking at a package deal, we're in for about £1200 for flights, transfers and accom because they add in under-occupancy unless there are 4 of you.
So looking at DIY, flights are roughly £600. So can we get some cheap but not nasty accommodation??
Any ideas appreciated, although I don't fancy camping.........
Also, is there any way round paying £500 for a bloody lift pass?!! |

There are people who instruct or work in whistler on here who can probably help more than me but I can give you some advice, I instruct at lake louise so I know how to get a few things down.
Check out the Samesun chalets or hostels, I havnt stayed in one but have had tons of friends who did, $20 a night. Best western tend to have cheap prices in town, try them.
Not much you can do about lift passes, Canadian resorts can charge that amount because tourists pay it, I paid that much for a season pass once a while ago.
Even by going to whistler your making it more expensive because B.C. have higher taxes than places like Alberta!
Prob wasnt much help but try and get hold of "lez_s" on here! |

i did the same as what your planning about 7 years ago now, back then you could get flyzoom flights for £250
we got our resort pal to buy our passes for us, she could use her discount.. |

I thought my ears were burning.
First off the easy one, if your mates are working out there and working for the mountain e.g. a job with Whistler Blackcomb they can get good discount off lift passes, but I can't remember if its only off day passes or off weeks etc. Get your mates to look into that when there.
Accom have a look at th Holiday Inn, Whistler Village Inn and Suites or you could look at Southside Lodge, a hostel with very good food below http://www.southsidelodge.com/southside.php they always get booked up so I would email them asap.
As for flights have a look at Canadian Affair as they are the cheapest. A young lady that posts on here works for them so she could help you out. One thing the baggage you dont get much, but you should be fine for 2 weeks, but there is no way you can take a seasons worth on them.
As for transfers it depends on how meny are going. If its a couple of you then it would have to be http://www.pacificcoach.com/ from the airport if there is 4 or 5 of you heading out you can rent a car or get a limo http://www.whistlerlimos.com/whistler-b ... index.html between you all and it works out cheaper.
Another way would be head to downtown Van and get the Greyhound to Whistler http://www.greyhound.ca/home/ but for me after a 8 or 9 hour flight I cant be bothered with them so I get the coach from the airport to Whistler.
Any questions just ask. |

WB are doing deals if you book before Nov for lift tickets & accommodation from $86 per person per night which is cheaper than a days lift ticket (normally $93). Whether or not you can get that rate for when you want to go is another matter!
If you are there for 2 weeks you can always look at getting a 15 day season pass which is cheaper than a seperate lift ticket and gets you the season pass discounts at the mountain restaraunts and shops like Showcase - normally 20%.
All prices are plus tax, of course! |

Yup Canadian Affair - all packages are based upon 2 people sharing but we tailor make everything.
Plus there are some stay-free nights in a 2 week package.
I'll email you! |

| Air Canada normally have thier sales around the Sept time when the flights are fairly competative, last year just above the £400 mark so this year with the increased taxed expect them to drop to around the £500 mark. |

For accom, try http://www.alluradirect.com/whistler/ Used them last year a few times. A quick search just now showed they were cheaper than WB's website itself and they look as if they are doing deals on the lift ticket as well.
From memory, season ticket holders can get 1 discount per day on a lift ticket. Not sure if it applies to a week/fortnight one.
Re transfers - as Lez said, I would get the bus. Grab your bags, walk out the airport and jump on. No hassle with directions, car parking etc (unless you know where you are going) and drops you off in centre of Whistler, tourist office/taxis right there if you need them. |

Sorry Canadian Affair don't do any flexible tickets, that's why they're much cheaper than the other scheduled airlines!
I'll PM you my work email... thanks. |

Hi,
I'd second a lot of what has already been said. Defo try Southside Lodge - I was there over New Year and it was a pretty good deal. Close to the lifts and a nice crowd. Nice diner underneath the Lodge, too.
If you're up for it, look at flights to Seattle instead of Vancouver. In Dec last year it was £200 cheaper for me to fly into Seattle than Van. Could have been to do with prices going up for the Olympics, but worth looking at. I broke my trip up with week-long stays and some couchsurfing in Seattle and Vancouver too and a day trip to Snoqualmie, a small resort outside Seattle. Beautiful part of the world and definitely worth the air fare.
Good luck with it all. |
