Been having a look at the pair of them with the view point of a newbie

http://www.redpointclimbingcentre.co.uk/
Redpoint should cost about £21 for an introduction lesson (that price includes gear hire, lesson and day registration) or + £1 for a years registration

For those that can, gear hire is £5 and its £6.50 an hour plus the membership

http://www.creationwall.co.uk/index.html
Creation is about £29 (same setup as Redpoint but the day registration is replaced by an annual membership which is £3.75)

For those that can gear hire is £5.50 and its £6.75 an hour plus the membership

Might be interested as I've never done it before.

I'm up for it, on the basis I'm not gonna have to pay £30 just to register at somewhere I'm never gonna go again.

Ya know?

Do they do just a pay and play?

I'm not sure if they'd let you just 'play' as I'm sure its not that easy.

The one day membership is £1 and a years membership is £2

Will this conflict with the being drunk/tanning(burning) and football?

Although I may change my mind if I haven't got my strength back up because I was awful last time I went climbing....ask Danny it was laughable!

At most walls, a 'certified' climber (don't need a piece of paper, just know how to tie a knot etc) can sign in 2 people...even if they're novices. It's the insurance stipulation.

So, I could sign 2 in, andy could too I guess, dunno about anyone else, but tbh we could prolly show u what u need to know in 10 mins to get yourself signed in. For top-roping, there's no real danger unless you're a special kind of stupid.

Oliver can climb, but he's under 18, so can't sign anyone in. Hopefully he will be fully recovered from his broken collar bone and back climbing silly things upside down.

Depends how many people want to go, we can prolly cope without those kinda prices for lessons unless there's really loads of inexperience people want to go. If you don't have one, you will need to hire a harness and shoes if you really want, but that's about it.

Sorry, just re-read this Smile

It's not xscape, entry prices at a wall is just that, entry...it's not an hourly rate...you can stay until ur too knackered to continue

The membership side is required by insurance, you have to be a member of all walls, then you have to either be a competant climber, or escorted by a competant climber. A competant climber can escort 2 novices...all walls are the same.

Most, but not all walls have a 'bouldering' section. It's generally cheaper to go in, the wall is not so high, and the landing area is covered in thick crash mats. You don't really need any supervision to use this are (again, insurance led).

Although, strangely there are far more injuries bouldering than route climbing (smashed ankles etc). To 'boulder', you don't need a harness, so it's cheaper all round. I haven't looked to see if either creation or redpoint have a bouldering wall, but I'd be surprised if they didn't. If you're a novice, it's fun, and all you need is the entrance fee, no gear hire.

The interesting thing about boulderins from a snowboarders point of view is that it has a 'uniform'....u have to wear a beanie Smile
