We do have some intense stuff that runs overnight, so that might explain that. Nothing during the day though.

Right, we're on a new "node" now, although I'm not 100% sure what that means. But... it is expected to make a difference so do let me know if you have any more connection issues like those experienced here.

Basically no connection followed by a Post Nuke message that says "Problems in database connection".

Let's hope we have it sorted this time and thanks for your patience.

I keep having this problem too, noticed it a lot since I joined.

Just had it again, same time as normal (12:30ish)...

Sounds to me like they have a big backup job/cron running at this time.

@MW - that's something different.
@BB - bugger Sad

Nothing like a backup as we're on our own server. Only big crunchers we have happen overnight. We firmly believe it's a number of Chinese search engines hitting the site and not honouring the normal procedures for doing this. We did block a heap of them, so might have to go through that loop again.

(Without knowing anything about the situation) I'd be a bit surprised if that'd cause a 'friendly' database error, if you were getting scraped by bots to that extent - I'd expect to see a response time-out personally.

Only commented on it as I've had similar problems myself, turned out to be someone else on the server running some stupidly heavy CRON job.

Gotta be careful with some of these hosts (not saying this applies in this scenario) as although the files may be hosted on their own server/partition, the database server may be shared.

Yes, was very slow for a few minutes, but seems fine again now. I wish we could get to the bottom of this. It's not the server itself, but the number of connections to the database. It basically means the site is trying to serve over 300 pages simultaneously, which is crazy stuff. Normally you'd expect a maximum of half a dozen tops.

Not getting the database error message any more but it keeps getting stuck for 2-3 mins at 12.20 every day. Seems like an improvement but still....

Yup, I saw that and eventually had the DB error again. Certainly DB related. Passed it on again and they say a new tech team are looking at it.

The tech monkeys had their tech monkeys in and have given the DB configuration a beating with special caffeine covered bananas. Nothing reported today, so I'm hoping it's been sorted... but I've said that before.

I'm sure you'll let me know if you spot anything.

Anything whilst I've been away or has this issue been resolved at long last?
