I don't know if its been suggest before, it probably has, before my time...
But should we get a chat room going on IRC?
For those of us that already use it, it's an instant yes - but for those who don't it's so easy to impliment a java client into SCUK2..

Edit, on reflection I think I agree it'd probably be a bad idea over all  |

Been suggested many times
We would have a chat room but it boiled down to the following;
1. Not enough moderation to always keep an eye on it
2. Unsure if many people would use it -- There was an unofficial one a while ago, but barely anyone used it
3. I don't know, effort or something
4. Unicorns oppose to chatrooms, they much prefer letters and postcards
5. Studies from nowhere suggest that 80% of people in chatrooms are 'shady' or aging mexican men
6. Crows might peck at the roof of the chatroom over time, causing structural damage
7. It's difficult to get planning permission to build a chatroom
8. The land to build a chatroom on is expensive
9. No smoking in the chatroom
11. Don't talk about the chatroom
12. DO NOT talk about the chatroom
13. Only two people to a room
14. If someone starts talking about Flows, the chat is over
15. One chat at a time
16. If this is your first time in the SCUK chatroom, you must endure 5 minutes of pointless conversation with myself
17. Do not eat marmalade in the chatroom, it's really difficult to clean off the carpet
18. I've seen a lot of HB pencils in my time
19. Today is gonna be the day that they're gonna throw it back to you, by now you shoulda, somehow, realized what you gotta do, I don't believeeee that anybodyyyy feels the way I do about you nowwwwww

I KNEW there were 20 rules... I completely forgot about the marmalade...

Hmm not sure about a chatroom, initially I thought it was a good idea but after a rethink I think that maybe it wouldnt work, I think lack of moderation might be an issue, and I think generally people like the forum, I for one do. But I mean theres no harm in trying if, unless of course it's too much effort 
Oh yeh the other think I don't like about it is this point:

| We tried to do it before, there was hardly ever anyone in it. The moderation thing is very valid, I for one don't have the time or inclination to keep an eye on a chat room. |
