This is just an idea and I'm sure people will agree, make the search more obvious, such as a text box at the top of the forum or somewhere.

I have to admit that I forget its there as its doesn't stand out.

Maybe it would stop people being jumped on by people that already know there is a search option or already know that there are threads about a subject.

good call lez, i use alot of forums to find out infomation (repairing cars, buying products etc)

A clear, easy to use search is a make or break feature, to weather i use that forum or not.

Alot of new people to the online forums, could miss the search link or find it a bit complicated.
A ' quick search' box at the top would help a lot of newer member, and for more competent people they could still use the more advanced search link.

The search on this forum is absolute bobbins anyway. Your better to search through it using google.

The whole site will be searchable.
Google is still a good bet though. Just enter:

site:snowboardclub.co.uk pigtails

Even if the whole site is searchable, which will be cool, but unless people can see a search of some sort no one will know they can search the site.

I'm only pointing this out as a lot of new people who ask questions that have been asked before get jumped on for asking them and might put them off using the site.

So you're suggesting the search box is more obvious than the current search link in the forum? It will be. We currently rely on stock PHPBB2 search functionality. The new site won't be limited in that way.

From a usability point of view a text box is more obvious than the link.

as well as a more visible quick search bar, on the full search page how about a list on the top five searches, EG:

1: tunes
2: to
3: ride
4: too
5: right snowboard for me

Another thing worth adding:

A "NEW POSTS" button on each thread. That way you can click it and it brings you to the last point you read. I read the Erol Alkan forums regularly (www.erolalkan.co.uk/forum) and that's by far the handiest thing on there.

You mean like a link that lets you view posts since your last visit? Rolling Eyes

Hint: It's here!

No i don't mean that, I know that exists and I use it.

What I mean is a link on the thread title that takes you back the newest post in that thread since your last visit.
