really?? Thought Chamonix was a pretty safe bet this time of year.

I'm just back from a week in Mayrhofen, and the snow was awesome. At least a foot of fresh pow on our first two days, then it was clear skies for the rest of the week - doesnt get any better than that!!

We've just had some snow last night and today in Chamonix which will help a lot! We'd not had snow for 3 weeks prior and whilst the pistes were fine to ride (just a little icey in places) the offpiste was very hardpacked/icey.

Had about 20/30cm last night and similar forecast for today. Bring on the pow!

The bestplace is the northern mid latitudes to southern high latitudes (north of perhaps 40 deg N latitude but not all the way up to the Arctic and close to a rich source of moisture (like an ocean). Throw in some mountains to help squeeze out the moisture, and then you're in business. There are snowy places in high mountains in other parts of the world (Asia, for example) but snowfall generally falls short of those areas that are closer to relatively warm oceans.
