hey, i went to Beaver Creek this year for the 4th time in a row and ive conpletely fallen in love with it. I was wondering if anybody has, or anybody is an instructor there as im only 15 so id like to do my A levels then become an instructor. When i was there i asked one of the instructors what qualifications you need to become an instructor there and he said that at the start of the season they take on a certain amount of instructors. He sasid that all you need to do is be competant and snowboarding and then go on a 9 day course, and then you teach. Do you think that going on other instructor courses prior to applying for a job there would put me in a better position than other hopefuls. Thanks Chris

without been rude there is a lengthy thread by another 15 year old asking similiar things ..use the search facitlity ..... good luck

But remember snowboard instructor is a way of life , a life style choice , that doesnt really pay that well ........ have something up your sleeve ( or marry an ugly girl with money , as they all end up ugly , but dont all end up with money Laughing )

While this is true for most resorts, if you work at Beaver Creek/Vail or Aspen/Snowmass, you can earn a pretty good wack. But it definately is a lifestyle.

Cris, your only 15 with a long way to go. My advice to you is start teaching at domes and working with kids part time in any industry. Whatever you do tho, you MUST be working towards another career, teaching really is not for everyone, you need to have something to fall back on if after a year or 2 you dont like it. Also most people in the industry dont really do it for life, so again you will need that schooling/degree/work experience to fall back on eventually.

If you must get out to BC, first of all you need the Visa situation to improve dramatically. Second you need some experience with kids so you can work in Kids school and get your foot on the ladder. To get into adult school at BC where all of the money is you will need at least a AASI cert 2 or equivalent with a couple of seasons experience.

Good luck.
