Post subject: How do you pronounce Dakine?

Today was the second time I've gone to order something and realised just before I said it I have no idea how to pronounce it, then felt like a knob. Of course the kindly shop keeper repeated the proper pronounciation after my gaffed atttempt on both occasions, but naturally I promptly forgot when I put the phone down. Is it...
Dak-eye-nuh
Dak-eee-nuh
Day-keye-nuh
Day-kee-nuh
...or even something else?? |

The French barely ever pronounce a 's' at the end of a word, so its just said 'Teen' if you are down with the locals.
Still, at least the boarding in Poland is crap so you can avoid battling with the names of the big cities like Szczecin (Sh-chech-in), Łódź (Wudge) and Wrocław (Vrots-wav).
Oh, and its always been Da-kine (ryhming with nine) to me. |

...and the winner appears to be....da-kine. Thanks....though I shall probably forgot this next time I order something and sound like a knob again.
I have this weird thing going on when I read something that I can't immediately pronounce, I don't actually bother reading it, just recognise the word when I see it and never bother trying to pronounce it unless I'm forced to....it continually catches me out. I do it with odd names and stuff all the time when I'm reading books. I can't work out why I do it, especially as I'm a stickler for grammar/spelling/punctuation and have a fairly decent grasp of vocab (enough to play a mean game of Scrabble, at least  )
But yeah, Tignes was another look but don't pronounce one - well spotted! |
