Is it just me that had a look at this and though, hmm seems a good idea but theres a flaw. If you paid the £10 for the standard pack, you get the tags and one micro-chip for your boots. Is it not just me that would be like 1 chip for 2 boots? what if they stole one of them and not the one with the chip in it. or you could pay the £15 and have the chip for the board and boots, but again only 2 chips.

Could someone clarify the deal with the chips and how they work?

Here's the link to the news item if anyone's interested --> http://www.snowboardclub.co.uk/news-9244.html Razz

I guess the thinking is that nobody is going to steal just one ski or boot!? Especially if they both carry the warning stickers.

The question I would be asking is how you hide an RFID on a ski or snowboard? You could put it under one of the bindings, but then if you have a sticker advertising the fact that there's a microchip somewhere on the board it's pretty obvious where it's gonna be hidden!

Not a bad idea... I'm just not sure how to implement it... Maybe invest the £10er in a decent board lock? Or just keep an eye on your stuff!

Glad it wasnt just me that was having difficulties understanding. On a ski it would be easier to hide, the binding on them have hollow bits in dont they? Also they scan the things to make sure its urs? I cant see the police scanning everyones boots with a security tag on them to see if they have been stolen. Ahh well in principle seems ok.

I can vouch for RFID tags, I mean, I got 4 cats and a dog and all 5 have tags, and nobody has stolen them yet!

Thats where i think i'm going wrong, maybe a warning label would make someone want to steal them.

That's a better idea... still a bit pointless tho... But I guess they're a bit more difficult to get rid of than a plain old serial number.

A board usually has a serial number too.

It's a good idea, imo, it's cheap as chips (considering the cost of a new board) but kinda flawed.

a) I don't want those awareness/anti-tamper tags on my board/boots/anything
b) As said - where do you put it that it can't be removed, that doesn't damage the board and can't be easily removed.

The only thing I can think of is damaging the board by glueing it inside a redundant binding hole you never use, which also affects resale.

whats so wrong with taking it to the police for them to put a uv pen code on them, like u used to do when you took your bike to school for cycling proficiency. Its hidden and still if stolen no really gonna work. I think they have produced a market for making money that they havent really thought of. And as the Dragons would say "Ive seen enough, Im out."
