Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone has done any of the intensive courses where you have tuition for 8+ weeks then do your level 2 at the end.

I'm thinking about doing one so if anyone has any experiences it would be good to know which ones are good and why....

Thanks!

It's CASI not BASI (the Canadian equivalent) but I can highly recommend NONSTOP's 11 week courses, which work towards (and hopefully include) your level 2:

http://www.nonstopsnowboard.com/

You'll pay a bit more, but you get a LOT for your money in terms of time with instructor / guides, accom, food, cat trips, etc, etc...

BASI do the intensive courses too, got a friend coming back from completing and passing her level two soon. You do have to complete level one before going on this course however and I'm not gonna get into the BASI/CASI thing.

Not sure if this forum is starting to turn into a big clasified ad, Cleveland_Steamer you've not answered jessmells question at all! All that you've done is put a link for someone who gives instructor courses, of which there are plenty!

Anyone got any experiance to give the OP?

Check out http://www.snowboardcoach.co.uk/BASI2.htm its a 10 week course (8 weeks and a 2 week course at the end) This will give you all the training for the Level 1 and Level 2 BASI Snowboard Instructor Courses.

Absolutely ALL the training is carried out by BASI Trainers and BASI Level 3 instructors, so you know every bit of training you get is top notch. Additionally you'll do training each and every week (2 - 3 full mornings a week with video analysis)

You'll get to do all youre shadowing with a local snowboard school, and youll be shadowing fully qualified BASI level 2 or 3 instructors.

I am slightly bias as im part of Snowboard Coach and deliver the training, but this training programme is one of the best you'll find anywhere at any price. The bonus of this course is that is seriously cheap and awesome value.

Everything is run in Bansko in Bulgaria. Its not the biggest resort and Bulgarian customer service is sometimes abit iffy, but the mountain is pretty awesome, loads of good terrain, some of the best lift accessed off piste youll find anywhere, and really really cheap to live in the resort.

Everyone running the training is also fully qualified to take you off-piste, we all know the mountain very well and are really passionate about helping you get the most out of the course.

It is hard work, a BASI 2 qualification is earned, you cant just pay money, turn up and pass, but anything worth having should feel like you earned it!

I promise you, with the experience and quality of the training you'll get you'll have the best possible chance of passing the course, and youll come away from the courses as a very solid mountain rider, able to ride the whole mountain.

I realise this sounds abit like an ad, and it is i suppose, but it really really is the best of all the Instructor Training Courses you can do. In fact i remember teaching you to turn a few years ago at Cas, so im glad snowboarding has made an impression on you!

Thanks for the replies so far.
I've looked into the various systems and think BASI will be the best option for me. I've heard that some gap courses are better than others and some do not have BASI qualified instructors which is why I asked for peoples experiences here...

Cheers Gary, can't believe you can remember - was a while ago now!!
With the Snowboard Coach course do you have to have passed your Level 1 first? This is what it looks like from the website.. I sent an email with a couple of other questions a few days ago. I was going to do my Level 1 next month but decided against it (not because I don't think my standard is up to it yet).
Any news on whether the Level 1 will be run at Castleford by SnowboardCoach?

Hey, my memory for names isnt so hot, but im pretty good with faces!!

There are loads of gap/season long courses you can do. Im not familiar with them all as there are so many for BASI, CASI, NZ, etc. As there are some many its worth doing abit of research, im not going to come on here and have a go at any of the others, but i know for a fact that you really really really cant go wrong with the Snowboard Coach BASI Level 2 programme.

You're right about the Level 1, the most effective way of getting the most out of the 10 weeks on the mountain is to maximise the training time for the BASI level 2. The jump up in standard between the Level 1 and Level 2 is pretty significant. Therefore to have the best possible chance of completing it it makes most sense to spend the mountain time purely focused on Level 2.

The idea is that everyone comes on a Level 1 in the UK, to get it out of the way and avoid it being a distraction during the winter. If you check BASI's website under courses, youll see all the available level 1 snowboard dates. Not all of them will be on yet, i dont think the CAS dates are on, but they will be over the next few weeks. Courses in the UK generally run May through to November.

If you wanted to work on your riding before doing any instructor based training, then we are offering a load of options for coaching and training, Evening session, 1 day courses and 2 day courses. All these are focusing on high end technical riding, and feature the snowboarding riding fundamentals that are found in all the BASI Snowboard Instructor Courses.

If you drop Ash an email via the website then he can give you all the details for the season programme. The 2010 course finished at the end of the 2nd week in March, there are a ton of photos of everyone on the facebook snowboard coach fan page with you can get to through the snowboard coach website!

Thanks for the props on the course, think all has been said. We do pride ourselves in the fact that all the training is done by the the crew as the highest qualified instructors and me as an actual trainer being able to deliver the course exams/assesment. I think thats real important as right from the off you get to know what you need to work on to pass the course.

Have emailed you as well........

Doesn't look like it and we have sorted out dates with all the other centres which doesn't leave a lot for Cas especially as some of the proposed dates clash with other Level 1 we've already confirmed.

I've got the dates confirmed for all the other Cas stuff, the 1 and 2 day development/Performance courses and the evening open sessions but not the Level 1's.

I'm going to say no and then if anything changes I'll let you know......but I doubt it will......
