Hey All
I have just booked the 20th March off for one week I was looking to go somewhere in Austria can anyone recommend any destinations?
we are beginner/intermediate boarders and the last place we went in Austria was a small resort called Rauris which was nice but am thinking we now need somewhere with more slopes as we kept doing the same run due the reds being a little steep and very icy.
Also anyone got any experience with late March snow wise?
Keep on looking at Mayrhofen |

| Having been to St Anton 3 times in the past 3 years I would recommend there, however, it is regarded as being more Intermediate /expert but I was a beginner when I first went there, great allround resort in my opinion with great apres |

you could do a lot worse than Mayrhofen - brilliant resort on the slopes, and lively nightlife as well. I'm going there 2 weeks tomorrow...counting down the days!!
If not, Kitzbuhel and Kaprun would be a good shout |

Think is has just got to be Mayrohen the place looks just too much fun.
I did notice there is a load of reds but that can only be a good thing to help us progress
Anyone know if there are button lifts there or are they all T bars (apart form the cable cars), also still got to experince the chair lift |

Hey, me and my partner went to Mayrhofen 20-27 March 09....was great, with really good snow conditions, perfect village and nightlife to suit everyone.
There are mostly chair lifts in Mayrhofen, although the others tend to be T bars, which I try and avoid at all costs....I just can't master it.
I'm a beginner/Intermediate too and I found it fine. Head to the Ahorn on the first day/morning to find your feet, there is a fab chair lift there that is really easy to get on/off. There is also a gentle blue (run eight) by the vans penken park, which is good. There are other blues on the penken (run 2 and 20) the lift up there is okay..a bit older so not as nice to get off in comparison to the Ahorn, but its fine. Runs 2 and 20 start as narrow road runs...which is not my cup of tea, but give it ago.
There are plently of reds as you say, some steeper than others but defo some you could manage, just see how you get on.
Also if you fancy a trip, catch the bus to the glacier, your lift pass should cover it. There is a nice run there moslty blue with a bit of red...and again the chair lift is good and its a fab view from the top. Also if you want to do something different you can catch all three gondolas to the top of the glacier and go on tour through the middle of the glacier.
Hope this helps |

I have just checked the forcast for Mayrhofen next week and it will be a shocking 9 oC at the base and only -1oC at the top, wednesdays even worse with +16oC at the base
Apart from getting a sun tan will there be any snow left and what will it be like?
I guess there is always the glacier |

I wouldnt bother this far into March. I just got back at the weekend and the snow was really poor last week, very icey and they are saying in resort that it's the end for this season. They keep saying it'll snow on the weather reports but the're getting 1cm here and there rather than a huge dump. I would go for something higher myself. |

Yeah only thing is if I don't bother going then I will waste my hard earned cash on a holiday that's already paid for
if there season is over as you say then there is going to be alot of unhappy people going to snowbombing in April.
Weather is one thing you just can't predict |

| I just got back from mayrhofen slush fest +20c in sun at the top and in bowl at the park. Great fun skiers mincing in the slush and my hot n wet wax working a treat. Straight lining and making a bow wave! |
