Hey guys,
I need some advice as I've only been to the mountains to snowboard once before. I'm off to Cervinia, Italy for 4 days just me and a mate. Problem is he doesn't know how to snowboard at all and I dont want to hit the park or any of the slopes for that matter on my own - especially since we're both only 20 and just casually exploring the place. If he takes a 'learn to snowboard in a day' lesson at hemel or if i teach him for 6 hours on the beginner slope do you reckon he'd be able to follow me down a blue/red run in the mountains? Also how steep are the parks usually cos i'm planning on spending most of my time there and it'd be great if he could just follow me down avoiding the features.
Also, has anyone been to the snow park in Cervinia? What's it like?
Cheers |

| The reds in Cervinia weren't bad, the blue runs are a bit green and flat in places so I opted for red rather than blue most of the time, it was all nice, wide and open from what I remember. obviously it depends on how quickly your mate picks it up boarding but if he cam get to grips with his turns he should be fine in my opinion. Didn't go into the park so can't help you on that front. |

Didn’t make it over to Cervinia when we were in Zermatt cause the weather wasn't good enough but a good few folk on the Zermatt side raved about the park including the fella who gave us a freestyle lesson. Admittedly the one in Zermatt was pretty poor so I don't know if that's why it got such a good rep.
Most parks I've seen, it's easy enough to ride down and avoid at the features so that probably wont be a hassle for your mate.
Teaching your mates is not something I'd recommend unless you are very sure of your technique - you could pass on bad habits that make it difficult to progress past a certain level.
If you can both afford a lesson(s) when you’re out there then I'd recommend that. You could check if they'll do you a freestyle lesson while your mate does a beginner one - that way you both get to ride for maybe a half day at your own level and you’re not stuck out on the hill yourself.
Have a good one. |

Thanks for the replies guys, it helps to be a little reassured. Liking the idea of us both getting lessons. I think i will make him do lessons at hemel first though so he has a head start by the time we go to the mountains. Taking the steepness of the recreational slope at hemel, would that count as a blue or red slope? I've seen a few videos of cervinia, it does look pretty wide and open with a lack of trees.. which in my opinion deducts points for scenery, is it like that in all of the areas? And how much is hiring there?
Thanks a ton! |

Hi mate, i was in Cervinia last year.
Its a great resort with massive wide open runs, mostly blue's and reds. WIth a few hours of lessons at a dome here, you will be able to take on the blue runs no problem, and move onto some reds later on in the week i would imagine.
The Park is called Indian Park - if you google or you tube it you will see some good vids to whet the appetite. It is a really good park, and every hit has a blue, red or black sign next to it so you dont end up hitting something you are not going to manage!
In relation to the scenery, it is pretty damn good! Great view of the Matterhorn, but it looks totally different from the Zermatt side. If you get an area lift pass, or even just venture over for one of your days, you wont be dissapointed. Zermatt is a great resort as well.
If you are just planning on staying in Cervinia, there is still loads to keep you amused, and certainly for 4 days. Make sure you go right up to the top of the mountain, i think its called Plateau Rosa and do the run from there all the way down the mountain to finish your day - awesome!!
Have a great time |

If you do head over to Zermatt do it on a good weather day and head over first thing. The lifts shut down if the weather gets bad and you're stuck with a stupidly expensive taxi back to Italy (few hundered Euros I think). That was the script going Zermatt->Cervinia so I assume it's the same the other way. You can get one day pass upgrades to allow you to head over so you don't need a full area pass for the whole time your their.
Enjoy. |

Its funny you posted it, today i booked a week in Cervinia with my mate for a week in december
£313 per person for flights, transfers, accommodation and breakfast/tea - He's joining the RAF in January (at 17) so we decided to have a 'just like old times' trip to Italy as we've never ridden there before but we did most of europe with our parents as a group for the past 10 years
We cant wait as (according to the whitelines resort guide) its not the best resort in the region, but there are purely to have a laugh and pack as much riding in as possible - from looking at pictures it seems the park is decent-enough and there is plenty of areas to the sides of the piste to play in
If anyone else is interested in cheap deals - http://www.crystalski.co.uk/
And if anyone wants to go away for a week somewhere in the next few months and needs an extra person or two to make up the numbers, give me a shout |

nice one!
do you know where your staying? Im a Kitchen Porter but as it is im not sure exactly what hotel im in, would be sick if you were in the same place ha!!
I was in Pragelato back in march, near Sestriere in Italy and it was incredible! the pow was untouched when we got there, and when we left most of it was tracked by us apparently its illegal to go off piest in Italy but i never saw anything saying that, it was a really odd going to italy for the first time, normally in france everywhere is tracked to s**t including the slopes by half 9...in Italy we were hitting some runs at 10:30-11 and there was maybe one or two tracks down it...the slopes were so empty hah
if i dont see you out there have a great time bud, sure you will =D |

Yeah that sounds epic - we booked with crystal and it said the Des Guides was exclusive to them - so jealous you're doing a season there!
We should meet up for a ride for sure! |

| Yeah definitely need to sort something out and head out riding together. Cervinia is quite a small town anyway so chances are we'll end up meeting up at somepoint. I'll be working with inghams out there, heading out on the 7th of december really can't wait to get out there now! |
