at what point does "drifting snow on a hard pack base" become "deadly ice with a dusting of snow!

yesterday - ice fest -> slush fest ! lucky the chairs had no queues, I love the single Cairnwell chair, that looks like my grandad made it from some old wood and some spare clothes line wire.

Hi,

You should add comments to the Snow Report Double speak thread.....

Anyway I was up at Glenshee on Saturday morning, and I have to say that in the morning the snow was great...just right. In the early afternoon it did soften up considerably though.

For me the biggest issue on Saturday from mid morning was the low cloud/fog...visibility was very poor. I called it a day around 1:30pm.

BUT...comparing to Nevis range (that's the place to go if you want ice!) Glenshee was a pleasure. Pity there was nothing on the snow reports about poor visibility.

I went up the nevis range saturday.... i got up to the top of the goose neck and just turned round and came back down. Sheet ice 100%..... no mention of that on their website, funny that!

I went to glencoe instead, much better because they actually had snow

I was up Glenshee on thurs just passed there, and as far as snow conditions go it was pretty immense, some icey patches here and there, but i spent most of my time off piste and also up the Glas Maol, so it was pretty shweet!! I know what you mean bout the low cloud etc Jonb, it was pretty terrible up untill late afternoon, but it cleared and gave me a good 2.5hours of perfect boarding!!
