Heading up to the cairngorms for friday and saturday but I see the weather forcasts starting to look pretty windy. gusts up to 60mph on Friday apparently.
http://www.mwis.org.uk/mountain/EH.PDF
Its probably a stupid question but what do people think the likelihood of the slopes being closed? Is it even worth going? Will I be blown off my board?!
Travelling from Manchester so was hoping that the conditions of the last few days would last into the weekend.
Any opinions appreciated! Cheers |

| Yeah go for it, takes alot for the slopes to be closed, if it gets to windy the top might be closed but theres snow all over at the moment. |

I'd say the opposite. A strong SE'ly plus snow could be a boot in the baws for Cairngorm. Given their recent history, you might have to wait a few hours for any drifiting over the funicular to be dug out and the wind speeds are pushing their upper limits for the lifts. Its not only the speed you need to take into account, but also the direction. SE winds won't do you any favours.
You could find that they only have the car park tows opened
Saturday is looking a bit better with less snow. I'm considering that day, but I'm going to wait for the updated MWIS this afternoon and Friday before deciding for sure. |

Cheers for the replies guys/gals, I'll keep my fingers crossed.
I see the funicular isn't likely to be open til around 11.30 today due to snow drifts-i expect it'll be similar tomorrow! No shortage of snow then!!
We'll make the best of it anyway. |

if all else fails, you can try to get down the road a bit to Glenshee - its a bit more sheltered from the worst of the weather usually...and the snow conditions are great at the moment. Hoping to get there tomorrow myself.
Have a great weekend |

| snow at Glenshee was great on Saturday as well, all 20 lifts open. However...visibility was really poor which was a shame. Still had a great time as always though |

I turned back from Glenshee fri. Got there at 8.30 and couldnt see the chair from the cafe and it didnt get any better by 10am.
Had my gf with me whos a beginner and didnt want somebody crashing into her or me because of the poor vis. |

Aw man,
Wish id seen this before, was 4 of us up the Cairngorm sat and sun, we were meant to be doing Cairngorm Sat and Glenshee Sun, but we had that much fun at Cairngorm once the funicular was open (finally) on Saturday(despite the awful visability), we went back for a 2nd dose !
First trip to Scotland and it was definitely worth it ! |
