Got a letter today from the Document team , saying as from feb the mag will be bigger etc as it is combining with its siter SKI mag ...not sure if this is a good or bad thing , will have to see when the new format mag comes out ........as long as it dont end up 90% ski info and 10 % snowboarding |

my sentiments exactly ...best scene going and we lose another mag ...the worlds going mad , i dont mind a bit of freestyle skiing info etc , but i have a feeling the ski part will be bigger than the snowboard part of the mag ...time will tell , and then may have to cancel my subscription |

Wow. big news. Never read Fall Line. Is it freestyle skiing or punterville ?
it's more new school than old school, so yeah lot's of freestyle and powder lines, trick tips, gear guides
tbh it's document for the modern skier
Ian Samson used to be editor of both mags so the format became pretty similar |

Hey guys I worked for Document for a bit and the mags not going totally, its going to be a lot more online next season and a few new tasty things planned the will keep document fresh and on the UK scene, same editororial team and headed by James Bryant who is really keen to keep the UK scene alive.
But for the actual printed magazines the 6 yearly issues have been faded out, and its more down to a financial route of brand advertising that keeps the magazines alive rather than the subscription sales, which is a shame as subscription sales have been up this season but its not enough to keep the magazine alive for 6 issues a season !
In short alot of the brands are feeling the credit crunch like we all are and are cutting back on advertising and so it effects how long the magazine can run for, ie Snowboard UK closing and now Document cutting back.
As I understand it, fallline ski magazine will now be just called fallline and will be like a younger more core aimed daily mail ski and snowboard magazine, and have a lot more content for Snowboarders rather than just ski and will keep up with the UK stories and events for both, ie the Westbeach snowflex series etc
And then DOCUMENT as a title will be an online magazine / site that will cover purely Snowboard reviews, events and in particular keep you upto date on the goings on on the UK scene and its riders.
If I hear any more I will let you know, PS new site launches soon with some really nice content and videos, and there will be a weekly news letter which is looking sick, so email them and subscribe to this and help keep the Document name alive. |

online is all well and good..but you can't read it on the crapper
Hey mate I fully agree and so do the guys behind it, and thats why its not closing up totally as the idea is that when the economy pics back up and money is being spent on ad campaigns again it can move back to printed issues.
Actually probably should point out that its not all doom and gloom for the UK scene as brands like Westbeach, Capita, Union, Rome, Bataleon, Vans, Quiksilver, Deeluxe, Coal, were fully on board with Document and wanted to support the UK scene even though the economy is tight, which is a good sign for UK snowboarding.
Anyway from what ive seen the online coverage is looking super cool and will be alot more upto date with coverage of the UK scene, as you can edit web page content daily, where as printed is at least month behind if not a season, so it should be a good a really good read.

i agree Ian online content is great, it's good to see that brands are still backing James as lots of people forget it cost's money to manage and maintain online data, and to get around and about to events and sessions to get real "shop floor" content... and then people bitch if it takes two days to get your review/photo's/edit online
but an online magazine is where sites like fotp, mustachio, snowbroader etc have been pushing the boundaries of what can be done... but you still can't beat the smell and feel of a fresh new snowboard mag landing on your doorstep..
I do have a laptop, i just keep it out of the bog..it may make the keys sticky if the snow-porn is too exciting!! |
