I got a rather smart new transceiver for my birthday and need to have a practice with it because the thing is useless if I can't operate it!
I was wondering if anyone else with a transceiver is up for a bit of a practice when we get to Tignes? They have an area where beacons are permanently buried so that would be the obvious place to have a go... |

Great idea to practice. The more you do, the better and quicker you'll get at it. You could save your buddy's life.
Make sure whoever you venture out with into the backcountry with is as competent as you at using a beacon, shovel and probe. If an emergency happens. You'll be saving each other.
Happy practising! |

Can't afford to buy one, but am perfectly ok with being buried for 5 minutes for people to practise on if needed
As long as theres a shot of vodka to warm me up after |

| Bringing mine, so a little more practice in a group is always welcome. |

Good idea! I think I might even have a spare, plus an extra probe (missus) so will bring those along. Not much good without a shovel though.
Might practise in the garden!
How do "permanently buried beacons" work? How do you know you've found them? |

| You either have it switched to send or receive. If you're searching for someone, everyone involved (or in the viscinity) should have their transceiver switched to receive - that way the only transceivers that you'll get a signal from belong to victims. |
