Just thought I'd let you know to be careful when you're away.
I and a few guys went to Mayrhofen 12 to 19 Dec 09. It's a great place, awesome area, people are friendly, it's cheap compared to France, over all it was brilliant!
Anyway, we went to the Ice Bar next to the lift in Mayrhofen, we locked our boards together using the Scuk lock. We had a great time but when we went our boards had been nicked.
We both had last years 156 skate banana so I suppose they were there to be taken.
I had to get a new board and have told the Austria police and insurance. Unfortunately I can only get £350 from the insurance - the board and binding cost £560 for a new one from England but when I bought it from Moreboards in Mayrhofen they knocked 20% off the price so my new board cost me £513 which is a little bit of a bonus. I got this years banana which bizarrely doesn't feel as good as last years!
So if you are going to lock your board try and lock them seperately at least, but if you can, take it home to the hotel.
Another think - boards are going to getting nicked if you are in town apres ski. |

Thats what I thought, but when it came to it it was for £350.
Lloyds TSB with free insurance. And I thought it wouldn't be an issue as I never have any problems. |

Personally i think someone should invent a way to connect the electricity mains to your board.....maybe through the edges.....so when these little sh1t try to steal our babies it fries the feck!!!!
I feel for you mate, I saw a guy outside a bar in val d'isere a few yrs ago stood in dis-belief that his board had gone and I felt so sorry for him, all that time setting it up and getting used to it and someone just takes it!
there's something nice about knowing my 4 yr old board is safe outside a bar! |

I have the same policy. There are two restrictions to be aware of. Gear value is (I thought) £350 minus a £50 excess. The other restriction is that it only gives you 17 days cover per rolling 12 months.
I have upped the cover to £550 and have upped the time to 30 days, which has cost about £50. As it covers me and the missus this is still much cheaper than buying separate policies for each trip. The cover is by Axa and is very good, especially if you need medical treatment.
Sorry to hear about the gear getting nicked. The little cable locks aren't really worth using, especially if you have a desirable board. You can cut the cable with very small wire cutters or pliers. I use a curly push bike lock when having lunch on the hill and never leave my board outside apres bars, locked or not. Get a slope side locker or take it back to your digs first. |

| Yeah I had LLoyds TSB account with free stuff. I'd cancel it if I were you! I never had any probs, but I realised that even tho it had free worldwide winter sports insurance, it was still costing £25 a month. Even if you needed insurance cover all year round (Which most people don't), you'd be way better off taking SCUK insurance out which works out a lot cheaper per month and gives you way better cover! |

I changed to SCUK Insurance for that very reason... what I found quite funny last year is that I had 3 seperate insurance claims (a bad year with a board stolen, house burgled and car damaged) all with 3 seperate companies... in the end it was all dealt with by the same company in Ireland... haha.
PS, Mods are losers. |

Man that sucks!
Over the (many) years I've left my board unlocked outside loads of restaurants and bars, including that very bar - as has everyone else in our group.
Be sad if we all have to start carrying locks around all the time. |

| Did you just lock your boards together or were they also locked to something like a railing? |

Its worth keeping for me. The alternative costs are:
iPhone insurance - Orange £144
AA cover full - £120
Winter and summer holiday cover (2 people multi trips) - £195
That lot is worth £38 a month and there are are other free benefits.
The value limit isn't so important this year. The most any company will pay out for equipment over 1 year old (my board will be 1 year old in 3 weeks time) is 70% of the price you paid.
My second choice would be the SCUK policy. |

| Does anyone know what the limit for a board is on an RBS royalties gold account? I would be gutted if someone nicked mine.. i love it too much and it couldnt be replaced easily (2004 sims fader.. the black and white one with sexy jenna and someone else on it). i think i would actually cry if someone nicked it :'( |

My annual policy for my family is half that with SCUK.
I really must renew that soon as you get an extra 5% off if you renew an annual policy. |
