Good point - didn't think at the time, but I had the Premier account or whatever the top one was called and the equivalent AA membership was £90. Also just been looking at mobile insurance and £120 seems way over the odds. Try looking on http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insura ... e#cheapest where it recommends talkcover.co.uk or CUSC insurance which look as tho they'd insure an iphone for well under £100.
Stop giving LLoyds the money! It's not worth it! |

Just out of interest does anyone know what the score is with replacing boards/paying out with the SCUK policy?
I've taken an annual one out but on reading through the small print I thought it said that the payout reduces with the boards age (I can't remember the figures) and that you needed to have receipts. Whilst this in understandable I don't think it would have helped the OP as his board was last years 'nana. This means that if you have to buy a new board you may find yourself out of pocket (but with a shiney new board )
If anyone knows differently feel free to correct me |

Winter and summer holiday cover (2 people multi trips) - £195
My annual policy for my family is half that with SCUK.
I really must renew that soon as you get an extra 5% off if you renew an annual policy.
SCUK Annual family multi trip is £158 for world cover, after discount. Its a very good price and I would buy one if I didn't already get free cover.
Ace - they have been a good bank to me so I don't mind the fee. Phone insurance is not something I would want to buy off the cheapest provider. Service is everything and I would want a replacement in 12 hours, no matter where I am, which is what I have with Lloyds. Orange's policy does the same. iPhone insurance is expensive as Apple won't allow the phones to be repaired/refurbished.
Dan - I have never seen a travel policy that does old for new. Take a good lock and it isn't an issue. |

Barshaker - That's kind of my point, I accept that that's the way the policy works. All I was pointing out was that everyone has recommended the SCUK policy but they will probably find out that in the case stated at the beginning of the post it still wouldn't have provided a full reimbursement for the board and bindings.
I do agree that the policy is the best winter sports one out there which is why I bought one, it's just worth checking out what would happen if your stuff got nicked if that is what you are concerned about. |

Fair enough
I don't have anything against Lloyds - I still bank with them. In fact I've been with them for about 20 years! I just now that they're good for you until you actually need their help, then they'll screw you over! |

Sorry to hear that... did they simply walk off with a job lot of boards or did you lock them through a railing or stand?
It seemed quite a busy area when I was there last year, can't believe someone’s strolled up with a pair of bolt croppers… to$$ers |

Sorry to hear that too. I had my board nicked in Mayrhoffen as well a couple of seasons back, it was from the hotel's 'safe' storage too!. A lady there told me that it is common for thiefs to drive up from Innsbruck with a truck and just go round loading it up before scarpering out of dodge.
The SCUK insurance must have changed since then because when i tried to claim on it it was a £500 max single item limit and they counted a board + bindings as one item as they can't be used indavidually?!? I only got the £500 even tho my setup was worth in excess of £600. |

Alot of policys reduce payment by 10% per year of the age of board .... i k now my does , but hey i dont know of many old for new policys out there ....may be wrong or they may be expensive in the first place
1yr -10%
2yr - 20%
3yr -40%
down to over 5years only pay 20% of original cost
but anything is better than othing if some low life does happen to steal ya beloved board |

The SCUK policy will pay out as follows (from their T&Cs)
• Up to 1 year old - 90% of purchase price
• Up to 2 years old - 70% of purchase price
• Up to 3 years old - 50% of purchase price
• Up to 4 years old - 30% of purchase price
• Up to 5 years old - 20% of purchase price
• Over 5 years old - Nil
My policy is the same and I believe these rates are pretty typical for the industry. Expect to take a hit if your brand new Vapor/Method/Ultralight and C60s get nicked. |

heading out to mayrhofen tomorrow so will be sure to use my heavy duty lock over the thin cable ones.
i guess it depends whether the boards were just locked together or to a railing etc.... |

We just got back from Mayrhofen yesterday. Had a week out there and my friend got his snowboard stolen from outside the ice bar on Tuesday night. We'd been in the ice bar at about 4pm and locked our snowboards up. We went to Bruke n Stadl latrer on but I gave up early and went home about 10:30pm, came back and picked my snowboard up (at this point there were may be 3 left tied up). My mate came back to the hotel a couple of hours later to find his had been stolen. Lock smashed to pieces on the floor.
I didn't let mine out of my sight again all week! I'll be going back to Mayrhofen next year based on last week, it was awesome, but I'll be paying to put my snowboard in a depot somewhere instead of leaving it outside!
Are there any stronger locks than the Demon lock me and my mate have? |

| This seems a bit of a stupid thing but if you leave your board (something that costs around £300 usually) outside in the centre of town for 8 hours in the dark with just a bit of plastic and flimsy metal holding it together, what do you expect?! |

Indeed. My board cost over £1,000 and is not insured - I doubt the companies would cover it, but why on earth would I leave £1,000 lying around where scumbags could steal it? I don't, saves me a ton on insurance. Even if the scumbags take a board or two from me, I'm still coming out ahead on the premiums over the years. |

| I always take a decent bike lock, the board locks are OK in emergency but a small set of wire cutters will make short work of one. Even then, I only ever leave a board if I have no choice, which is pretty rare. |
