I've been told by my physiotherapist that yoga may help with the back/shoulder/neck problems I have and I've come across a couple of yoga for boardsports videos so I'm thinking I could kill two birds with one stone here and perhaps improve my stamina and strength for riding as well.
The ones I have found are 'Yoga for Boardsports' and 'Shred Better', does anyone know of any others or have you used either of these and can you give me some advise about them?
Thank you. |

To be honest, yoga of any sort will do what you need it to. Anything that's targeted towards boardsports is pretty much just marketing.
The best way to learn it is with a teacher, a video won't be able to tell you what you're doing wrong. There's loads of yoga classes about, find a few locally and give them a try. |

I'll second that. I started going to a Yoga class about 3 weeks ago due to lower back pain & stiffness. I already feel a lot more supple than when i started. I dont think theres any substitute for a real teacher, no matter how good the person doing the video is. As mentioned they will correct you when you are doing something incorrectly, which could end up preventing you injuring yourself further.
Plus if you go to a class you can pretty much guarantee that there will be a few fitties in there! |

I've been doing yoga from awhile now, due to back problems. It really helps your balance and core strenght. As you are stretching the muscles you'll see a vast improvement in your flexibility.
It's also funny when someone strains to hard and farts in a class full of strangers. |

Thanks all for your tips. I'd love to go to a class but working shifts makes it difficult to get there regularly which is a bit annoying.
I think I'm going to give one of these a shot and get my yoga teacher friend to help me out if I get stuck. I'd go to her regularly but she's off to India every five minutes.
Thanks again, I'll let you know how it goes if interested. |

Try looking on the web site Yoga2hear they have downloadable classes and cd's, specifically yoga for snowsports, Sue Fuller is an excellent yoga teacher and I can highly recomend her classes, My wife and I have taken classes with Sue, and done the cd classes at home, they come with full instructional booklets or pdf's.
I suffer with lower back pain from prolapsed disc and yoga totally helps. It is fantastic for strengthening core and improving balance as well - and don't forget the inner calm it will bring !! |

I think your yoga teacher friend is the best place to start. She could give you a program to do at home and you could have the occasional lesson with her so she could make sure you're doing it right. |

| WOuld not be snowboarding or skateboarding anymore if it wasn't for Yoga. Drs basically wrote me off after a series of Rugby League, Skating and Snowboarding injuries. Been doing it for 10 years now and when i stop for a while i can't believe how inflexible i feel. Even if you can't goto the class regularly defo get someone to check out that what you are doing is right, otherwise you can do yourself more damage or be wasting your time. |

i started a month or so at my local gym, quite a lot of people do it now, young and old men and women. I was about a flexible as a plank of wood before but its helping a lot and with balance.
My teacher says to see real improvement you should do it 3 times a week. Have tried the online videos too but i find them harder to focus on than if i'm in with a group of people.
And yup yoga farts are the best |
