I am going boarding in Yllas, Finland just after Christmas and need some advice on lenses please.
Yllas is inside the Arctic Circle and the sun doesn’t rise at this time of year. There are a few hours of twilight so the slopes are floodlit. I will be wearing goggles to protect my face against the cold but don't know what colour lenses to go for.
I have Adidas ID2 goggles which offer a three low light replacement lenses; clear, yellow or orange. I would imagine that clear will be the best option for the (lack of) light but doubt I’ll ever have need for them again and it seems nuts to bin £30. The next option is yellow lenses that I can see me using in low light conditions elsewhere. Orange will definitely be useful elsewhere but I think they may be too dark for Finland. Here are the specs from the Adidas website.
http://www.adidas.com/Eyewear/hw07/content/catalogue/index.asp?pFilter=category&pValue=sc_6&strCountry_adidascom=uk&strLanguage_adidascom=en&brand=performance
Clear
9% light absorption
Protection from wind and insects, night time water
Yellow
14% light absorption
Better vision in fog and diffuse light, brightening effect
Orange
36% light absorption
Better vision in fog and diffuse light, brightening effect
Has anyone ridden in these light conditions and if so, which colour would you recommend?
Thanks in advance
Phil
PS have posted this in "equipment" and "abroad" to get best chance of a response - apologies if this breaks the rules |

| Finland is pretty low-light, we went to Levi last feb, I used Oakly permission lenses (orange) in my wisdom goggles and they did the trick just fine. Dont think I would have liked clear lenses. |

| I would go for the yellow, they can actually brighten the snow. |

| I'd go for yellow, having used a yellow lense for cycling in grey conditions and when it's wet in this country, they work just fine at highlighting contrast. They will work just as well in low and flat light as an orange will IMO. |

| Other thing I noticed when cycling with a yellow lense, weirdly, is that it makes you feel warmer. It's all in the mind, but it gives everything an almost sunshine glow. And when taking them off and seeing how grey and dark things really were, I felt the chill a bit more. Mind works in odd ways sometimes. |

thank you
I particularly like the idea of feeling warmer even if it is all in the mind - it's going to be bloody freezing over there! |
