Hi All, just getting back into this boardy lark and having to watch all the higland snow settle nicely whilst waiting for some boots to arrive GRR!

Basically, I have bought a board and it is fitted with some weird looking "Ride" bindings.
They have no footplate, only 2 fixings on each binding on plates that are on the outside of the binding (no disc)

The "skeleton" of the binding is all alloy.

Will get some piccy's up tomorrow but thought I would post now just to see if anyone knows, based on just this descripiton.

Know them?
Good or bad?

they sound like ride baseless bindings from the mid 90's

they were a hot item of coolness for a year or 2...and then we all realised they where rubbish!!

the idea is that you have a direct board to boot contact so no horrible binding to numb the feeling...in reality they reduced control and induced vibration (especially at speed).

however that said and done, your obviously a noob, so you're not going that fast, you won't be throwing insane tricks so give ;em a go until you can afford something a bit more modern.

(still post some pics in case I'm wrong) are they a little like this http://www.grafsnowboards.com/images/graf_155.jpg or this http://www.miltonosnabrock.k12.nd.us/ja ... age009.gif

Ride baseless bindings. Genius, that takes me back. I rode a mate's set of these for a while, when I was temporarily bindingless.

Think I replaced them with metal A Snowboard low backs (so daftly low they may as well have not had a back).

As said above, as long as they aren't about to fall apart they'll be grand. If there's snow grab it while you can. We probably all spend far too long nowadays worrying about whether our bits of kit are exactly right. At the end of the day all you need is a board with your boots attached to have fun.

(That said the day I replaced those low backs my life got a lot easier)

You're right, people don't know how lucky they are these days! I learnt with a pair of A (I think) step ins, worst bindings ever with the highback attached to the boots rather than the bindings. Still managed to get down a mountain ok!

Thanks Guys that's brilliant!
My main concern was whether there was any horror stories about the fixings ripping the board apart because there are only 2 on each one.
Can't help thinking they have a lot of work to do but given that they are on the outside, there wouldn't be as much leverage on them compared to just 2 inside on a disc.
Those are the right ones Branny Cheers!

stick a couple of squidgy stomp pads inside each one on your board to lessen the feeling and theyll be fine.

amen to this, i made my first three boards myself cos i couldnt afford to buy my own. made some bindings ot of huge old ski boots sawed into pieces.
its never been cheaper and easier to get out and ride. god bless ebay and the fickle consumerist nature of snowboarding that means you can barely give away stuff thats more than 2 seasons old!!

I learnt at Norfolk Ski Club before snowboarding was widely done, and so I had to use rear entry ski boots and hard bindings to learn in!

I also remember trying out this step ins from Switch which similarly had the high back attached to the boot! NIghtmare!

lol this all brings back memories, when i was learning it was hard ski boots clipped on to the board with backless bindings, kinda like old skool ski bindings infact.
