I normally wear Helly base layers and a thin fleece, which then goes in the back pack if I get hot.

I've just bought some Nike Pro Therma Max vest and legs stuff, mainly for winter biking but may give it a go on the slopes... if it gets cold enough.

The Nike stuff was in a sale at JJB. $130 for the set in the Nike Store, on line. <£60 in JJB.

Personally I don't bother with Thermals but do wear Skins Base Layers, which help to keep me snug and the compression technology makes me look like a Navy seal, albeit a fat one. Oh and the compression tech also stops me aching so much the next day

See I would say that a base layer to keep you snug is a thermal.

The helly hansen stuff is ok but it gets a bit smelly, merino base layers ftw! I nearly always have a base layer on top, because as the saying goes: Cotton kills.

mine are fully synthetic ones and never smell even after a weeks riding without washing them... although they are the dry series not warm...

Thermals are not just for keeping you warm, it also wickes moisture [your sweat] away from your body and keeps you dry and comfy.

Just out of interest, what is the difference between "thermals" and "base layers"?

I've got some base layer tops but they aren't labeled as "thermals", and I don't have any leggings.

I'm curious as i'm going to the Bash in Jan, so need to know if I should pick up some extra warm stuff Smile

Cheers.

I have HH, Under Armour, North Face and Skins... all much of a muchness...

I think just some companies call them thermals some call them base layers...

hmmmmm, i'm old, snowboard in temperatures down to, umm, well below -30 and have still never found a need for thermals.

A short sleeved wicking layer and a long sleeve top, is all thats needed under my jacket.

Are you lot wimps? Or just buying sh1t equipment?
