Heya,

my question is fairly simple, when you're off-slope (or without access to one) is there any way of skilling up yourself without having to be on a board? For example, any good excercise routines for particular muscles or just in general? Probably looking for something that will make Poma lifts a bit easier for me, cause they're still pain and hate to me atm as the latest lift I've learnt to use.

I'd be guessing it was mostly leg workouts, or?

Idk, or just anything that helps improve stance that you can do in a room or as you go or w/e.

Ideas?

The best way of getting better is riding more and using the lifts more.

Go to your local gym and ask the instructors for a program to get your legs stronger or do squats with a ball up against the wall.

someone posted this site a while back, LOADS of snowboard-related exercises:
http://homepages.together.net/~ronjav/sbtp/index.htm

other that that, only way i can think to improve skill while away from the slope would be a balance board? dunno...

Cheers guys, I'll be trying these out at the local (: some of em I can do at home, got a running machine for endurance and weights machine for strength. Got a balance board too, which I might try out. Is there much of a difference made with the physical fitness versus practice? Or is it mostly practice but the physical helps?

For me I think the best way of getting fit for snowboarding is snowboarding its self as there is nothing down the gym that uses the muscles in the same way.

Getting your fitness up is good too. I find the fitter I am the easier snowboarding is.

I've been doing a bit of Pilates and think it's improved my core stability, leg strength and flexibility over quite a short time.

Been thinking about getting a balance board so would like to hear how you get along with it if you try it out.

I find yoga is great for strength and flexibility. Helps your posture and balance, and strengthens your heart too.
