Post subject: Ramp Design  PostPosted: Jun 03, 2009 - 01:08 PM

looking into a ramp design, I need some feedback on this.

Taking the size of a dendix matt

1830mm by 1220mm

Ramp

Width 1220mm
Length 1445mm
Height 610mm

Length of 'slope' 1569mm (leaving excess matt for tiedown)

Now, taking my ropey maths into account that would leave angles of 61 degrees at the take off point. Is that correct as it doesn't sound right. Landing slope is about 20 degrees, and its basically a ramp for spinning.

Metal construction, unsure of diameter of metal.

Any comments especially welcome (as I'm a carver not a freestyler)

what length are you talking about, the length of the base or the length of the transition? How are you making the transition as wedges aren't so much fun to spin off.

Length of base would be 1445mm (will be shorter depending on transition)

Length of transition would be 1569mm , thats without any transition (All I've got at the moment is a wedge)

I'm unsure how to actually work out a decent transition. At the moment my theory will be to design it more for the use of intermediates/suicidal beginners. A secondary ramp would be made depending how the first one goes.

normally u want the take off to be the same as the slope (other way round of course) or its 'by by knees'

Thats whats causing my confusion as well. As someone else stated

the jumps should be about the same deg as the slope, remember tho the slope goes down so if its a 20 deg slope the jump needs be 40 deg at the top of the transition

By my bad maths I'm currently looking at 61 degrees

I may need to get back to the slope with a protractor.

yeah, whe i said the same as the slope i ment if the ramp wqas level so it would need 2 b 40 for the slope to even it up

Any comments so far?

I have this in Google SketchUp 3d if anyone wants a play.

Any help in finding some transco pipe would be most appreciated as well.

o yeah, increase the angle between the back of the ramp and take off so it would b more at \ that angle cause it might buckle once its on the slope
u would wasnt the back 2 b verticle once on slope

Way to much science there for me.

I use 25mm x 25mm x 3mm box for all the stuff I build, it has enough meat on the metal to get a good strong weld.
Side show it right that you need to get the uprights upright with the slope, basicly a right angle triangle with the longest side on the slope. I would also make the centres of the uprights 500-600 mm.

Guess the steepness depends on the angle of the slope its put on?

Well, I just did a slope measurement. Take off steepness is 19 degrees, landing is 16 degrees.

So, about a 34 degree angle?
