from the news http://www.snowboardclub.co.uk/news-8295.html
It's really sad to see one of our shred mags going out of business, it's always amazed me how the uk scene can support three UK mags, plus 2 English Euro's and a stack of American imports.. well unfortunately it can't anymore
I've been an avid reader since i started riding and always looked forward to the thud on the door mat or the search around whsmiths to find it.
i'm guessing that the web killed the magazine star in the end, unfortunately SUK website never really hit the spot with me.
but i'll miss flicking through the glossy pages and seeing the stands at the shows and events, So thanks to years of great articles, photo's and news from all staff past & present, and hope that you can all go on to new things. |

a sad lose. hope all the staff find new jobs.
Was a bit crazy how the UK had more national snowboard magazines than any other country, canada, europe. america was up to four at a point but only 2 have been around for a long while.
Hopefully it will mean more content for whitelines and document as they fill gaps. Its good how Document is mostly UK stuff where as whitelines is more international. well that how it seams to me. |

I really feel for editor Mark McG who has been a joy to work with during my three years of contributing to SUK - and it's very sad to see the UK's first Snowboarding mag fold.
BUT: Mark Nutall, Managing Director of Freestyle Publications has been a nightmare to work with for the last three years, refusing to pay invoices for months and months, with me having to constantly request that they settle my invoices and me not even getting the courtesy of a reply or any explanation. I am still owed money, and am unlikely to ever see it now.
I thought this was just how they treated me, then, when investigating Nutall and Freestyle Publications, I found this thread on a Kayaking forum and it turns out the Mark Nutall/Freestyle Publications Ltd have a long habit of not paying their writers and photographers and just ignoring them when they try to find out what's happened to their money.
I've written for most of SUK's competitors (portfolio: www.snowsphere.com/pf), and Freestyle Pubs were the only company who I've ever had problems with. And I had problems three years in a row.
Therefore - If this is how Nutall runs his business and treats the people who write for him and support the mag, I can't say I'm suprised, or feel in anyway sorry for his company going bust.
I sincerelly hope that the SUK title finds a buyer, and that Mark McG continues to edit the mag, but I won't be writing for SUK ever again if Mark Nutall has anything to do with running it. |

| if the magazine has 68,000 paying subscribers, it will not be as reliant on the advertising £/$ as many other titles and should be able to turn a profit. I'm sure he will find a backer |

| I don't think any mags make money out of readers. That's why you seldom read a bad review, even when the product they're review is patently pants. Their first responsibility is to the advertisers, not the readers. |

68 thousand copies sold isnt going to generate much profit at 4 quid a pop, not when youve paid the amount of staff they need and all the over heads
Based on those figures (+ advertising revenue) I think you would be making plenty of profit, how many staff members do you think they have?!
Sadly, as Branny pointed out, its 68,000 readers not sales, and they'll get a fraction of the sale price.
Shame, hope they get back on their feet though, but as its been said 3 snowboard mags in this country is spreading it a bit thin. |
