I am learning at Cardiff dryslope, have been since November last year lol Will be having my tenth lesson next week!
I personally enjoy it, perhaps its just because I am totally hooked on boarding already after only having 6 lessons, I had a week away in France, fell over loads, but loved every second.
The slope isnt very big, but the instructors there are lovely, very friendly and helpful and the price is super cheap, great for me
I'd go to Tamworth if it wasnt so far away and expensive.... plus i dont drive so
I wont be giving up the dry slope |

Yeovil is my home slope, it's up for offers at the moment, the council (who own the land) are open to tender for development of the area.
if this will include a ski slope...who knows
in the mean time the mighty mt warmwell is 40 minutes down the road, and it's snowflex covering is great fun.
pm me if you need some riding buddys, i'm overseas but plenty of the old cre ride warmwell irregularly

Inspired by this thread I went to Rossendale this morning to give some support to my local dryslope.
Well for today, at least, it would appear they didn't need it. It was heaving, the car park was full, as was the surrounding roads which led me to parking on the grassy knoll nearby (this act against mother nature would get its revenge later when I got stuck! Luckily the Rossendale bods were really good in dragging me out. Plus 1 brownie point for the Roz)
I decided to use their board and bindings and the board was fine not too battered but the bindings were shocking. All in all I had three sets of bindings due to various faults with the straps, ratchets and clasps. Not one of them had any spring in the ratchet and they were all swine to do up. Now I did manage, however, to get them done up but any noobie trying this out for the first time would have a nightmare and I feel it could put them off coming back anytime soon.
Ok you may say that maybe because of the amount of business they were handling today they could have been a bit low on hire gear. This would be a valid point if I wasn't 1 of no more than 15 boarders on the slope and from what I could tell the majority of them were using their own gear. So needless to say this side of my experience was not too favorable.
Right enough of the negatives, now for the good stuff. I arrived at 11.30 this morning, convinced them that they gave a SCUK discount, funnily enough they asked me how much discount I got but I was a good boy and said 10%. So paid my £15 ( £17 - £1.70 apparently equals £15??) then went to get my hire gear and for those that don't know that's not for an hour and a half or even two hours thats for as long as you like.
Even though there were lots of lessons going on and people milling about, the queue for the main slope lift was never more than 3 people deep. I decided to wonder up to the park as I knew it was all snowflex and I wasn't ready to lose my Dendix virginity just yet. The park had about 8 people (mix of ski and board) floating around so there was never a queue. I had a few runs and amazing falls and was having a good time. I stopped for a bit of liquid refreshment at the restaurant (not badly priced, bottle of Oasis £1, bottle of Powerade £1.50) and then set off with new found energy to conquer the Dendix.
I feel I should point out at this point that I'm not a competent boarder, just about linking turns but still having a few issues.
Well, Dendix is nowhere near the beast I thought it was. Ok it chattered your teeth a bit when you tried to stop but turning was ok, I was able to get my edges in and bring the board round only being limited by my own skills. The slope itself is in reasonable condition, there were some obvious places where the dendix has been there for some time and wasn't looking its best, but on the flip side there were also large areas where the matting seems to have been replaced quite recently. As for falling over, which I do class myself as I bit of an expert, its wasn't too bad, yes it hurts but so does real snow, I didn't trap and lose any fingers in the harlequin diamonds of doom and my clothing seems to have survived just about.
So all in all I was at Rossendale for just over 4 hours for a mere £15, I had a good day, if not a little disappointed in the quality of the hire gear and developed my skills a bit. I don't think I'll give up on the fridges but I enjoyed myself and will certainly look to go again in the evenings or a weekend maybe when I can't be bothered to drive to CFe or Cas Vegas.
I think I've droned on enough |

Nexus 30 nice write up pal.
The bindings are utter crap ill agree, everyone seems to have a problem with them in one way or another. If your into it for the longrun get yourself setup, plenty of ebay cheap deals to be had now.
As for the park was there still snow on it and was it snowing today? Thinking of going mon night for a ramp session but hopinf the snows about on the snowflex.
All a freindly crew up there so dont be afraid to ride the park just for the flex even if u dont do the ramps. Many people do, let me know when your going next ill look out for you if im there. |

| The park was partially covered but it was mainly ice. They were infact clearing it off the ramps at one point, but when I left it did start snowing again. I only live about a mile away (even more shameful that I've not been much) and as I look out the window there's about an inch or two outside on the street but there it looks like there could be more over night. I'll add another post in the morning and let you know how it looks. |

Re: Public Liability insurance, -I would never think to sue a place but I've had my worst, longest- lasting injuries from dry-slopes and that's what puts me off. Despite (obviously crappy) wrist guards, both my wrists are in a bad way and I yanked my fingers back the last time I went. (Brentwood, since you ask)
Another thing is a lot of places charge for 2 hours when often I only want to do an hour. |

Personally I think Gloucester is great. It has snowflex park and dendix slopes and if you hit the righ times it is quiet and on friday nights they have freestyle with coaching by an ex pro (not quite my bag yet though) . For me i try and get there weekly and so think its great as i cant afford to hit tamworth or snow on a weekly basis!!
Thanks to this thread I looked at the Glocs website and it does look ok. Still going to tam tonight, but reckon i'll check out glocs next week
Does it have rails etc on friday night?
yeh you should defenitely go up mate, tuesdays and fridays are the freestyle nights, and theres two boxes about 8ft long each and they can connect together too.
do you know how much the freestyle nights are? if its the same as 3hrs peak, thats £20 which is the same as my member price at Tam for the night |
