I have been thinking about taking my board on a dry slope but im worried that the friction will destroy the base and the edges, am i being stupid? or is there anything I can do to prevent damage if I do take it on a dry slope?
Cheers |

you are just as likely to damage your board on dryslope as much as on the mountain or in a dome
it's a snowboard, ride it, destroy it, get a new one
seriously if you care that much about your board you'll be scared to ride it anywhere....i've had core shots on a mountain, i've gouged out chunks of ptex on dendix, i sliced the base on snowflex, and hooked up on screws and stuff in fridges.....i've also had boards run over by skiers and other riders on plastic and snow.
everytime you take your "baby" out of the sleeve it's a risk, that risk should be weighed up on conditions (either thin snow on the hill, or bad condition dryslope)...or just that some random is gonna ride over it and trash your top sheet |

Oh dear, this comes up every year.
Yes, it will damage it. So will anything other than hanging it on a wall and looking at it.
It will generally damage it less than riding on a real slope that has poor snow cover. However, you could ride over a screw, you could go on a day that was really dry and the sprinklers weren't working and you could accidentally drop the board over the barriers from the upstaird viewing area at Halifax.
You're probably less likely to have a skier stab it with his poles, but it's still a possibility.
Basically, buy it, use it, throw it away and buy a new one....it's what you do. |

Hey, go easy on him.
I've always wondered if it'll wreck it more (more friction etc - not helped by the fact that when I brought my boots in TSA, someone had wrecked their board at Swad and base burned it), plus not all of us can just buy one off the cuff.
Just never bothered to ask as Tam is just as close for me
So yeah, just keep it well waxed and don't crash basically |

| One tip I was given was to make sure the base is as slippery as poss, its even suggested to smother it with Fairy liquid to help it slip about on the dry stuff (NOTE: Other washing liquids are available but any guarantee of your hands being as soft as your face become NULL and VOID) |

We may have been a little agressive, but rather than just answering the question with a yes or know, I think it is valid to point out that boards are a tool we use rather than an ornament we look after.
Equally, a simple search using the words 'dry, slope, and damage' returns 32 results.

thanks i guess now that I've bought it, I might as well have fun with it before it rots away on its own accord.
and tiberius im sorry i didnt realise there was a way to search previous questions, im guessing you have probably had to answer the same question more than once, on many occasions, seeing as you have 8328 posts under your name |

I'm ill, so therefore I'm prolly even more short tempered than my grumpy old man status allows
...but actually if you look back at the other threads, I think I was prolly just as flippant in them all |
